in 15 minutes!

It's TCM for me.
Do they run it unedited?
-
ACM or TCM whatever
-
I just set it to record.
This is old 1968 old
-
ACM or TCM whatever
There's AMC too.
-
I felt about trashing this today to troll Solo, but I decided not to.
-
THANKS for the heads up.
-
lol monkey cock
-
Wouldn't matter, Willco. I don't who jacks off to, or farts in the general direction of, 2001. It wont change my feelings about it.
-
I love how TCM airs the Intermission.
This movie is pretty damn good so far. I'm completely sucked in right now.
-
Absolutely no character development hm.
I missed a lot of the beginning (the monkey stuff) but I saw the black monolith part. Saw lots of the rest of the movie, and just recently stopped watching for a bit; it's gotten to the colors part lol, where he's traveling through space at rapid speed.
The movie wasn't as bad as I expected, despite some rather glaring flaws and parts that made no sense.

really you cant think of 2001 as a traditional movie, or else you just wont enjoy it.
-
Just went off. The ending makes no sense to me, at all. I need to watch the thing from beginning to end, but I might not have the patience.
-
What the FUCK did I just watch?
That was completely different from any movie I've ever seen. I don't know what to think.
I just know it was a absolute assault on my senses for the most part.
-
What the FUCK did I just watch?
You saw a bunch of monkeys doing nothing then some shit in space capped off with a laser light show at the end.
Time wasted: aprox 2 1/2 hours
-
:lol

Great movie. Almost as good as Blade Runner.
-
I watched about an hour and a half, and loved what I saw, but have to do some stuff. I dvr'd it all though. Very unique and stylish, despite being a good 40 years old.
Seems I'm one of the few here that would appreciate this type of movie: slow, subtle, and stylish.
-
Himu, I definitely enjoyed it. But I can still laugh at Hitler's description.
It's amazing how good the movie looked after 40 years.
-
If there's any one reason to watch it, outside of it being one of the best movies ever, it's the special effects. The models used here will never appear to be outdated.
-
*yawn
Wake me up when there is actually a story in the movie.
-
Bowman fights the galactic empire in the sequel.

Awesome, is there still a 10 minute scene where it's just one shot of an eye while different color light changes on it?

Pfffff, kids these days

This film is great on the big screen. A local cinema played it a few years ago and it was awesome
-
One of my faves. Still have no idea wtf is going on those last 30 minutes or so, but...
-
I know the whole beginning is supposed to represent the vastness and shit of space, but damn those 5 minutes of black and creepy music is annoying.

Good man. Stick with it. The film is insanely different than anything youve seen, but its also insanely rewarding.
really you cant think of 2001 as a traditional movie, or else you just wont enjoy it.
Indeed. 2001 isn't about character development or the narrative. It's about the experience.

You just watched one of the greatest films ever made, by one of the greatest filmmakers who ever lived. And "assault on the senses" is a perfect description, Juice. From HAL's meltdown onwards, Kubrick treats us like a $2 whore. And I like that.
If there's any one reason to watch it, outside of it being one of the best movies ever, it's the special effects. The models used here will never appear to be outdated.
Truth x 1000. The practical effects used for the space scenes have NEVER been topped, and still look real today. That's because they took the time and did things right, spending countless hours on meticulous setups. Kubrick was known for being a technical virtuoso, and I dont think thats ever more evident than in this film. The effects are mindblowing some 38 years later.
Also, the 10-15 minute mindfuck of Dave heading to Jupiter never ceases to amaze me. A major studio in todays world would NEVER release this picture. God bless the 60's.
One of my faves. Still have no idea wtf is going on those last 30 minutes or so, but...
Well, the whole film is about evolution, as the three acts are broken up as such (and the black monoliths symbolize each evolutionary leap). The monkeys learn to use/make tools, which was the first evolutionary jump. The next jump is man in space. Then when HAL goes crazy, and Dave is forced to shut him down and make it to Jupiter on his own, the final evolutionary leap is made. Dave arrives in the chamber, and begins aging rapidly, and the final monolith appears when he is on his deathbed. The final evolutionary step is Dave (aka man) being reborn as the Starchild, a higher form of intelligence and being, and being sent back to earth.
