Title: How Is Barry Lyndon?
Post by: Cheebs on February 11, 2007, 09:23:40 AM
I have been in a Kubrick mood and this is one of the few of his biggies I have never seen. How is it?

My second fav Kub behind 2001. Fantastic cinematography, and the best lighting you'll ever see.

Holy shit, second favorite? 2001 is my personal favorite as well.

Do you know if it is getting re-released with the others this year?

No clue. I had no knowledge of the re-releases until Shake mentioned them recently. Im not even sure if they've said anything except to say that there are working on them.

Awesome. You are a gentleman and a scholar. The real question then is: what is #3, jarosh and Cheebs?

First comes Dr. Strangelove THEN Clockwork. So you were close. Remember I am quite interested in politics and strangelove is rather political.

For me its 2001 > Lyndon > Killing > Stranglelove > Shining > Spartacus > Paths of Glory > Clockwork> FMJ > Lolita > Eyes Wide Shut

Fuck, what an impressive body of work.

Spartacus fan too eh? Good movie, probably my #4 or #5 but I always fear mentioning when discussion of Kubrick comes up since Kubrick wasn't a big fan of it.
I always wonder how A.I. would be if he was able to finish it and Spielberg didn't take over the project.

Kubrick wasn't a fan because he didn't really direct it. Kirk Douglas was the star and his word was law, so he basically told Kubrick how to shoot it. This is the event that caused Kubrick to exile to the UK and make the rest of his films from there, so avoid that sort of bullshit.
