Post by: Phoenix Dark on February 12, 2007, 02:11:42 PM
Before I head off to school of course

Movies that are better than 2001:

Taxi Driver
Brazil
Forest Gump
A Beautiful Mind
Snakes on a Plane
Dumb and Dumber
Gigli (the DC)
Kingdom of Heaven (the TC)
Saw I
Saw III

Hey, I admit 2001 is better than Saw II

But Saw II is better than Saw III.  Saw III is godawful.

The only Saw worth mentioning is the first film. The rest are shameless knock-offs, and I will be sure to get rid of them within due time.

The first Saw had so much potential in terms of the plot, but it was brought down by amatuer directing/writing. I would love to see a remake of it in 15 years or so, but by a competant director

PD what do you say to all the film critics and organizations out there that call 2001 one of the greatest films of all time?

Not just technically in a King Kong way but as a FILM.

I laugh and say they need to watch a true classic that's one of the greatest films of all time, not just technically like 2001: Clash of the Titans

Here is a challenge. Find a 2001 review from ANY respected outlet that calls it anything less than one of the greatest films ever.

The general consensus is Casablanca, The Godfather, & 2001 tend to go hand in hand as some of the all time greats. I bet you can't find any to break that trend!

Now, seen in the actual 2001, it's less a visionary masterpiece than a crackpot Looney Tune, pretentious, abysmally slow, amateurishly acted and, above all, wrong.

Do you find it a bit troublesome that is the only single negative review on RT?

Why even bother?  :lol

Variety also had a negative review

Reviews don't mean much considering most of the movies you guys hate so much are considered great by the reviewers. So when they agree with you (2001) it's fine, but when they don't (LOTR, Star Wars, A Beautiful Mind, Scarface, Aliens, etc) they don't matter. task tsk

2001 is a sad, sad movie. Star Wars made it irrelevent anyway LOL

(LOTR, Star Wars, A Beautiful Mind, Scarface, Aliens, etc)
I enjoyed all of those listed. Ron Howard is a sad sad little guilty pleasure of mine. Mainly 80's Ron Howard.

Night Shift was his best film he directed.  :hyper
