The real challenge is back.
-
UGnG almost made me buy a PSP. True story.
-
Its so awesome.
-
So how difficult is this, exactly? Make a scale.
-
First off, I don't use an IGN scale, so mine is legit. Also, I've played some mind-numbingly difficult stuff.
I'd rate this like a 7 or 8, but I really had had an old school challenge like this in a long time. Older games seem to rely more on skill and hand/eye coordination. Newer games' difficulties seem to rely on mastering controls or gameplay elements.

There are plenty of games these days that have that oldschool touch. It's just that they don't appear as often.
I mean, shit like God Hand came out like last year mang.

I'm playing the Sega Genny collection and it's so odd to play so many games without tutorials. It's like SHIT DUDE START PLAYING LIKE A PRO.
Phantasy Star IV has like, no item explainations or battle tutorials or anything. It's like, GO FIGHT SOME MONSTERS.
-
Yeah. That is so true. That thing got to me as well. In fact I prefer it that way because when you're playing and you accidently do a move you're OMG SO COOL and it feels so much more rewarding because you did it yourself.
This is why I fell in love with the DMC games and Capcom in the past 5 years. They're like FUCK YOU TUTORIALS and you do some move while experimenting and you're like SO COOL.
Capcom :bow
-
I just like how the level design in Shinobi III, a game I never played, is based around moves that the game never tells you how to perform. OH YOU DIDNT KNOW YOU COULD WALL JUMP LOL LOSERS BETTER DO IT OR YOU WONT GET FAR!
-
That's the one game I was talking about. I never got to play Shinobi III growing up. I have Shinobi and Shinobi II but no Shinobi III. So I was just playing around and I was all SO COOL because I discovered new moves as I continued to play.
Doing the run + attack move on most enemies is fun to pull off
-
Totally.
It's funny to play the Genesis collection, because I played maybe five games on the console (I was a SNES guy). The Nintendo produced games seem a bit more polished and tight. They even had tutorials! But the Sega properties seem much more creative in terms of characters and game settings.
-
Yeah they aren't as polished. Sega was never about polish like Nintendo. They were more about creative shit.
Have you played Comix Zone? :bow
When that game came out I was in a frenzy
-
Comix Zone is pretty awesome. I'd like to see Sega do a sequel or something for the DS. You could use the stylus to draw objects and stuff.
-
Well, it was developed by an American Sega studio, which I'm sure if kaput now.
-
The concept doesn't seem like it'd need the original team members. As long as its a Sega IP, they should farm it out to a talented, small dev group familiar with the DS.
I'm tell you, Comix Zone on the DS, with its awesome brawler/comic setting and the ability to draw objects to throw and use would be so awesome. And fit in with the game pretty well.
-
I agree but...Sega just isn't what it used to be...
They'd find some way to fuck it up. There's also the matter of franchises Sega deems important. They would never consider Comix Zone an important entity enough to revive it. From my understanding, even back in the day, Comix Zone was really slept on. In fact I was the only person who had it, despite a lot of my friends owning Genesis', with the exception of one other person (and he got his with his Sega Nomad).

CrystalGemini is not a game
-
I'll get you, Patel!
-
I'll get you, Patel!
As your girlfriend might say, "Yo no soy escaredo."
-
So, I'm like halfway through this game and it rocks. It's beautiful, amazing and I can easily see myself trying to be scores and time records for awhile. It's a fun diversion when I'm not playing Metal Gear Time Sink.
-
I bought UGnG not too along ago (during the price drop to $20), and it has definitely provided quite the challenge. I don't remember playing a game in years that had me so frustrated. Still, its a challenge I greatly welcome. :D I'd definitely love to see a sequel, but I doubt that will happen. :(
