This poster put out by Lucasfilm at toy fair happens to reveal the long rumored focus of the new star wars television series premiering in 2009.

Remember this is not written nor directed by Lucas, just produced by him so it might be decent.
And yes that Yoda head is from the cgi cartoon series on cartoon network next year.

:starwars

the bounty hunter books were good hopefully the show will be

Star Wars is so played out. Lucas has really wrecked the fondness the vast majority of people had for the original films over the last decade. Geeks should be able to keep the show afloat.
-
I thought (and maybe I dreamt this) that the Star Wars series was going to be something of an anthology series? Did I hallucinate that, because it sounds like a damned good idea.

I swear the original reports from Lucas were that it would be an anthology series, but featuring certain characters prominently.

It won't be kept "afloat". Lucas said they will film 100 episodes and no more. Sci-Fi and Fox were fighting over the show last I heard and Lucas' one condition is they must air all 100 episodes.

Why is he such a tard? WHY?!?!? Only 100 episodes for what reason? Lucas has got his head so far up his ass that I don't know what.
-
I would rather they did some kind of story about the last surviving jedi bridging episode III and IV, kind of have them on the run visiting different planets and stuff.
-
When the best sci fi has to offer on tv is BSG and Firefly, it could be average and still be the best thing on tv.
It could be as shitty as Cleopatra 1023974 and people will cream themselves. Sci Fi fans have such low expectations.
-
Battlestar is like paying Bz to come over to your house and take a shit on your dick.

He doesn't want a long running tv series. He seems to have a set end date for it. 22-24 episodes a season shows it will last 4 if not 5 years. Thats not enough?

That would have been awesome, so Lucas was like, NO! :wag

Yeah, that is more than enough time to spend on a character like Boba Fett. :-\

oh, yeah that's right.... :-[

Wow that cg of yoda looks like ass.
-
They should get Daniel Logan. The series could be like Smallville only totally radical awesome better because it's fucking STAR WARS rite?

I'd watch 100 episodes of that!
-
That CG Yoda looks funny. My hopes get up do not.

They are using the art style from the genddy clone wars mini-series, thats why it looks "funny"

Nobody is going to make a 100 episode commitment for any television show. This just sounds like ManaByte.

Ironically I think I got this info from a post of his at gaf months ago. :lol
-
I knew it! ManaByte would have you believe there is a need for a Star Wars cable network, airing Star Wars programming all the time.
I'm sure Sci-Fi and FOX are fighting for the rights, as it is a lucrative property with a loyal geek fanbase, but nobody is going to make a 100 episode commitment. Especially after Lucas' last super huge movie franchise property bombed terribly on TV.

What was that? The Young Indie series? I thought that didn't do badly?
-

I tried to tell that to Manabyte and the other prequel-humpers months ago, but they wouldn't have any of it. They are certain that the show is a guaranteed success based on name alone, that it won't matter if it turns out as bad as the prequels, that people will follow even a poor-to-mediocre series for 5 consecutive television seasons.
And that the two networks most likely to bail out on a faltering sci-fi series are just tripping over themselves to make a 100 episode commitment, sight-unseen.
Honestly though, if the show is just about some stupid bounty hunter and there's no Jedi then there's not much reason for even Star Wars geeks to tune in. It'd be like making a Star Trek series about the bjorans or some shit.
-
LOL nobody is going to watch this garbage after the first 2 or 3 episodes.
-
What was that? The Young Indie series? I thought that didn't do badly?
They didn't even air all the episodes when it was cancelled. That should tell you how well it did.

Really? I thought the show was generally recognized as being pretty good? I've never actually seen it.
Also, if this were an anthology series with a stable of good writers, it could really be something. Star Wars provides enough settings, has enough history, and enough background that stories could be told for years. Plus, it would be like the first anthology series set entirely in the same scifi/fantasy universe, right? My idea is excellent!
-
It was pretty mediocre. There were a few good episodes, but it's easily forgettable run-of-the-mill television programming. Nobody remembers it. Not even Harrison Ford's cameo could save it.
I'm just tired of Star Wars. I want Lucas to stop, so that I can forget all this prequel bullshit, fanfiction novels, countless games, MMORPGs and other assorted merchandise crap so I can actually enjoy the original films in two decades or so. Maybe less if they cancel the TV show early.
-
well star wars does have a much more loyal fanbase than indiana jones to bring out good ratings. Indiana Jones attracts the teens and family's in droves as a summer blockbuster, yes but you don't see 29482948284942 active message boards obsessing over it on the internet like you do with star wars.
Indiana Jones has a very broad blockbuster audience but you don't run into indiana jones fanboys too often

I'm going to use my new powers that let me see into the future. I see that the TV show will suck worse than the prequals.
-
What if it's a soap opera documenting every moment of Anakin and Padme's relationship? It will make every viewer commit suicide. It may end up being like the tape in the ring.

you realize lucas isn't writing or directing this right?

I would watch the first episode if only george lucas write the dialogue.

Oh ok, It will suck slightly less than the prequals.

eh? Episode IV-VI?
-
my bad
-
they're using boba fett so that in the event that the ratings are bad, they can just have an episode in which someone accidentally pushes a button on his backpack and sends him screaming into some large spiny rectum in the desert
storyline all wrapped up, series dead, money saved
-
What if it's a soap opera documenting every moment of Anakin and Padme's relationship?
I doubt that a TV show would be able to afford any of the big actors from the prequel trilogy. At least not Portman or James Earl Jones or MacGregor.
But I bet Jake Llyod isn't up to anything -- how about The Young Anakin Skywalker Chronicles?

You know what would go well with that idea? EWOKS!
-
Boba Fett was kind of cool as an obscure character in the original trilogy. It's so gay that they fan serviced him and his dad into such a huge role.
