The interview with Jack Tretton from Sony of America in the latest EGM is just painful to read. This is the first issue of EGM I think is a keeper. Make sure to pick it up cause the interview is legendary as EGM calls Sony out on some pretty obvious WTF:
EGM basically asks what happened with the launch, why the negative press?
"The problem we have... it's society in general"
and to paraphrase the rest of the Wahh session
"We were on top now EVERYONE hates us and wants us dead".

EGM asks 'WTF is with PS3's online component? Wasnt it supposed to be like Xbox Live Gold?!'
"It's (the online component) not where we want it to be, but we THINK its compelling"

Then earlier in the interview he challenges the interviewer to find PS3s in stock on the shelf in a retail location and he'll buy it for like 1200, then EGM goes oh but we called 18 retailers and most of them had them, then he said
"I CANT POSSIBLY KNOW HOW MANY UNITS ARE IN STORES AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT!"
I will give him credit however, for being honest about why UMD failed 'Studios had no clue what the audience wanted from releases' and then EGM inserted a picture from On Golden Pond UMD lololol. Least Sony is honest about that. Their comment on blu-ray also made sense, but god damn if there isnt some CROW EATING going on. Also this interview was done a while back so the bickering over ps3 in stock earlier in the interview isnt based off of performance so far this year.
To balance this hilarious interview, VF5 got stunning reviews from the magazine, and while I know it'll show up on 360 eventually, PS3 owners at this forum can rest easy knowing im at least a LITTLE jealous.

I'm going to withhold comments on the PS3, or all of the next gen units, for about 12 months. I'm pretty sure the next gen landscape should settle by then and we'll know who will take the lead, and then I'll take the plunge. The consoles are just too expensive this time around for me to make a blind buy; I don't want to throw my money away on another lame duck console.

You bought yours late in its life cycle, when they practically gave them away. I bought one at launch. And after a promising start, it lost steam quick.
It's easy to predict a victor around the beginning of a console cycle, but you really don't know until about 12 - 18 months out. PS3 could score another GTA (in terms of a game that comes out of nowhere to become a huge system seller) or maybe the 360 will get that title to push its system over the edge. I don't know.

I like the PS3 - I have almost every other console sans an Xbox360, I just don't feel the need to troll it. I enjoy it - buy one then rant/bitch.
So Sony's NOW fucked after about 10 years of spanking Nintendo? If anything there pretty set because they can just re-release the PS3 next gen - with some added distinguished mentally-challenged gimmick, and just eat their loses from this gen.

Hey Im a big fan of many consoles, I dont really give a shit if Nintendo made it or not. The PS2, for instance is an excellent machine. Its just that right now the 360 can do everything that a PS3 can plus 100 things more at half the price. Maybe if some exclusive, ground breaking software came out for PS3 (which it wont) I'll give a shit. And dont go throwing that Blu-Ray shit back at me because no one gives a fuck about that

PS3 has a moderate chance (due to playstaion brand name being brought down for high price because of bluray) but it has absolutely horrible marketing. I mean what is this interview? Either fire the guy or don't make him something that gets interviewed.

The responses are what make the interview, and the questions asked are honestly no brainers. EGM knows Sony won't back away from the press with these questions cause right now Sony needs all the friends they can get, even if these 'friends' are parading them around asking the tough questions.

these are the articles EGM should be writing. Sony has made it clear that they wanna coast on brand name, just as MS tried to excuse a totally borked launch. none of the questions were biased. in another three months, i expect them to ask Nintendo WHERE DA GAMES AT.

THIS, and the Peter Moore thing last year, are among the few examples of video game journalists actually acting like journalists.

concerning the Peter Moore interview of last year, it seemed like a good initiative though I didn't think much of it, and it's same thing with this interview with the Sony guy, it's not any different from the typical rosy replies that any businessman doing his job would say, so I don't understand why anyone goes apeshit over it
but the crew who does them is now piss-poor when it comes to credibility-- these are the same 1UP editors that do news articles where they gloat and give their opinions when they'd be supposed to be neutral and strictly informative-- also, the few of them who post on GAF basically all seem to be huge, infantile Xbots, a trait that they clearly show in EGM articles in places where journalists normally shouldn't

I assume you're talking about Luke Smith? Because Garnett, Mielke, Greg Ford, they hardly ever seem to post there, and Jared Rea/alkaline black doesn't really strike me as an Xbot. And you're wrong about the "strictly informative" thing. If they're just reporting news, okay. But an interview is an entirely different matter. Interviews should be probing, and the questions should reflect recent events. Most of Sony's recent events have been negative. I know a lot of dyed in the wool Sony fans are sick of hearing about it, but it is what it is. Their recent missteps really have been the biggest story in gaming in the past 12+ months, and this is going to continue to be a hot topic until it changes.
So...
a. What does Luke Smith have to do with EGM having a pointed interview with Tretton or recapping the PS3's missteps? He works under the same parent company, sometimes even writes for EGM, but had nothing to do with those two pieces.
b. Why shouldn't they write those pieces when they're legitimate stories/trends? I long for the day when more traditional/mainstream journalism methods take over the field instead of endless preview puff pieces and fanboy slobbers we usually get now.
And as far as Luke goes, while he can be trollish sometimes, he gives it to MS just as hard when they do or allow something that's consumer unfriendly.

Who the fuck bought Luigi's Mansion. Shit like Wave Race, Rogue Leader, Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee and a bunch of third-party support (like Capcom!) came on pretty early, but evaporated quickly.

I own one and I've enjoyed it, but I wouldn't of bought a PS3 if I hadn't gotten one as christmas gift.The system just needs more games. I've played the hell out of Resistence and the Gran Turismo HD demo and need a new game really badly!
Thank god VF5 is coming out next week!
