Man I really hate people who question why I watched English films with subtitles and dvds that don't feature them.
Whatever. After watching subbed anime for years it's gotten to the point where I don't even see the subtitles. I really don't notice them. I just absorb it and it's weird to explain, but I feel more one with the movie if it has subtitles. I feel more immersed because I concentrate more.
But it annoys me how if you're watching a movie with subs some hick will be all,"LOL subtitles. Let's watch something else. My brain is bleeding because of this." and it's aggravating.
Question for people who don't live in the US: do people say the same things in your country? I think it's an American thing.

Dubbing <<<<< subtitles
-
I'm talking about subs in general. Like, I LOVE watching English movies w/ subs the first time I get the dvd. It enhances it because you can catch every word. Seems I'm the only person who does that.
-
It's extra work. Especially if people just want to relax, kick back and watch a movie.
But there are alot of great movies with subtitles.
-
I got no problem with subtitles if I'm watching something in a different language, but subtitles while watching a movie in english? I don't wanna see that shit. >:(

I don't really see how it's extra work unless you have :downs: or some reading handicap. Watching movies with subs takes practice. It takes multiple viewings to adjust, but once you do, you won't notice them.

I do the same. Plus I have pretty bad hearing, so it helps.

WhiteAcid, we are alike sweety bunny.

Well i can't speak for movies but sometimes when I watch TV I put the closed captions on and I like it plus sometimes I miss things so I can just read it.

STFU. I do that too.
-
I like things in english - I don't give a fuck - if it's not school I don't want to read it.
-
What the hell is wrong with you people? Movies wernt meant to be read. Foreign language movies are the only exception.
-
I also do the same :lol
Same with TV. Its not hard simultaneously watching the screen and glancing at the subs. Its probaby
1) Due to my hearing (I may or may not have slight hearing loss...)
or
2) I can comprehend words in written/typed out form than verbally
-
If a filmmaker wanted you to experience it that way he would have made a picture book instead of a film.

I agree with FoC! :o
-
Its not like 100% of your attention is devoted to the subs. There is some wider peripheral like vision put into play.
-
Beezy you're dead to me.
-
FoC: "extra work" :rofl
Are people really that lazy? :lol
-
Sometimes I'm just not in the mood to watch a subtitled movie. Sometimes I like to be able to laze around with my laptop in front of the TV, and I don't want to have to worry about missing dialogue.

:lol :lol :lol
But I don't need subtitles when watching a movie. I can hear everything just fine.

FoC: "extra work" :rofl

It takes extra concentration like TVC said. It has nothing to do with being lazy.

Exactly. Sometimes after a long day of work, I really don't want to sit through something subtitled.

They're distracting, but I don't particulary care about them either way.
-
I just hate Japanese voices - they're annoying as fuck
-
This has nothing to do with anime or nipperland, Chris!
-
taiwanese is much much worse.

That's what you bastards get for using iPods. You'll all be deaf in 10 years :tbslol
