February 15, 2007 - Hot on the heels of the news that The Departed duo of Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon are poised to reteam for the fact-based boxing drama The Fighter comes a juicy rumor about who Wahlberg is trying to get to direct the movie.
Wahlberg will play Boston boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward opposite Damon as his half-brother and trainer Dickey Eklund. The pic chronicles Mickey's rise to the light heavyweight world championship and his relationship with his drug-addicted brother Dickey.
According to a source for The Boston Herald, Wahlberg has long wanted his Departed director Martin Scorsese to helm The Fighter.
"Mark didn't originally want to do The Departed," claims the Herald's insider. "But he took it hoping to interest Marty in the Ward movie."
Scorsese, of course, directed the classic boxing-and-brothers pic Raging Bull.
The Herald adds that "Damon beat out another actor who would have been supremely suited to play the part of Mark's brother -- Wahlberg's real-life sib Donnie!"

DiCaprio is a great talent. After seeing his work in The Aviator and The Departed, I can't wait to see what he'll do for Scorsese next. Wahlberg, on the other hand, just seemed to be playing a caricature of his other roles of late, only with a Boston accent. Yawn.

DiCaprio is a great talent. After seeing his work in The Aviator and The Departed, I can't wait to see what he'll do for Scorsese next. Wahlberg, on the other hand, just seemed to be playing a caricature of his other roles of late, only with a Boston accent. Yawn.
Out of the entire star studded cast of The Departed I found Wahlberg to be the weakest. While it was cool seeing him have fun with such a crazy role, eventually I got tired of the act. Basically when DiCaprio comes into the police office to get assigned and Wahlberg stats his shtick I thought it was being done to break in new guys (like the military) while asserting dominance. But it followed throughout the entire movie. Ugh
But it was definitely very cool that the main police officers all had difference personalities
Sheen - comforting, wise grandfather
Baldwin - comic relief
Wahlberg - enforcer

IMDB says he is doing Teddy Roosevelt biopic next with Leo. HE BETTER DO IT.
Teddy deserves a biopic and I would love to see an epic biopic of one of the greatest president's by Marty.

Yea, although it seems like something a director like Spielberg would do, not Scorsese. Although isn't Spielberg doing a movie on Lincoln? Shoe in best picture award confirmed lol

Er, no. QT himself blabs on about making 18 movies. Scorsese hasnt said shit about his next project. IMDb is and the rumor tabloids are just spinning their wheels like usual.
Also, Leo and Marty is a great fucking team. Each successive pairing they've had has been better. I am hoping that the fourth, the Roosevelt flick, is the one that really pushes them over the top into being one of the great duos, just like Marty and De Niro used to be. The best thing Leo ever did was get hooked up with Marty. And while getting hooked up with Leo isnt the best thing that ever happened to Marty, it sure as hell brought his films to a new audience, and seemingly rejuvenated him.
Finally, if theres any justice in this world, Marty will get to make Silence next, not the Roosevelt movie.

Yep. This year he is doing one of his famous back to back filming where he does a blockbuster and the right after does a more serious film and they both release within months of each other. Indiana Jones IV/Lincoln for 2008 :-* He did the same with Jurassic Park/Schindler's List in 1993 and War of the Worlds/Munich in 2005.
His Lincoln biopic is going to be awesome. QUI-GON JINN IS PLAYING HONEST ABE

I agree the Teddy one will be better. I find it funny that the writer and director of The Wrath of Khan wrote the script for Marty's Teddy movie.
