I love Batman Begins, but aside from its sequel I dont see anything on the horizon that will top the complete package of X2.
-
Batman Begins was better than X2 in every single way.
-
Sin City. And dont give me any semantics garbage. Theyre all comic books to me.
And if we bring manga into this, then its Oldboy, hands down.
-
Sin City is fantastic but its not a superhero movie. Super Hero.
-
Sin City is just some weird noir shit, I like it but come on. Comic Book story does not = superhero story.
All the spidermans suck and a few parts of begins just arent as interesting as all of X2
-
X2 is terrible, as is X3. X1 was good I suppose, but in the end the movies turned me off from comics. For that, I can never forgive the movies.
Sin City>X2
V For Vendetta>X2
Batman Begins>X2
Superman Returns>X2
Spiderman>X2
Spiderman 2>X2
etc
-
Youre so fucking stupid when it comes to movies.
-
How could anyone say the X-Men movies are better than Sin City or V for Vendetta? Or Spiderman 1/2?
-
Gosh, didn't you know? Stargate: Atlantis: The OC Files > Batman Begins, and it's not even a syndicated television series based on a comic book!
-
V for Vendetta is my fave, followed by Batman Begins. X2 was good, but I honestly don't remember much about it except for Brian Cox's awesome scenery chewing and Magneto fuckin' bitches up.
-

-
PD: Sin City isn't a superhero movie, and V for Vendetta is right on the cusp of going either way. I put it in the "superhero" category cuz V is clearly more than human, but the story is more grounded than it is fantastic.
-
Stargate Atlantis poops all over Sin City.
-
Fine. If I am required to stay within these shitty SUPER HERO limits, then for me its Spiderman 2, followed by Batman Begins, followed by everything else.
-
PD: Sin City isn't a superhero movie, and V for Vendetta is right on the cusp of going either way.
I will definitely admit to that. Personally I considered superhero movie=comic movie, but that's not entirely true.
So ok, let's throw Sin City and V out the window. That leaves us with
Batman Begins>X2
Spiderman 2>X2
X1>X2
Spiderman 1>X2
Superman Returns>X2
Batman (original)>X2
Batman Returns>X2
-
Batman Returns>X2
That is stretching it.
-
PD, you're fucked up. X2 is definitely better than both Spider-hyphen-Man movies, X1, and the original Batman. (Batman Returns is pure troll, fagcakes.) X1's pacing is all kindsa off, and the premise is the bad Stan Lee-esque kinda silly, not the good kind.
-
Spiderman movies are such sappy trash.
-
IT'S SPIDER-MAN HIS NAME ISN'T JOHN SPIDERMAN OK
-
Willco can hate me, but I honestly find both Spider-hyphen-Man movies to be pretty much unwatchable these days.
-
Spiderman movies are (well, were...3 looks horrible) quality movies, not just quality comic trash. X2 features more "ARRRG WE'RE A TEAM BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU" bullshit than you can count, not to mention the horrible portrayals of nearly every character. Wolverine is perhaps the only good thing about the X-Men movies
Then you have the utterly distinguished mentally-challenged Phoenix cliff hanger, which of course is utterly ruined in X3. I remember leaving the family room (I would never pay to see such filth) and thinking hey, this was pretty standard men-in-plastic action shit, but at least Dark Phoenix will be awesome next time. Oh how I was wrong.
Batman Returns drops a nice, cold penguin turd on the face of X2. Not only is it more entertaining and fun, it also has Christopher Walken which automatically makes it better. The only good things about X-Men movies is that they feature Wolverine being badass and two gay men we can all agree on.
-
X2 features more "ARRRG WE'RE A TEAM BUT I DON'T LIKE YOU" bullshit than you can count
What does that even MEAN?
-
gee, the "argh we're a team but i don't like you" angle is 100% true to the X-Men comic book, especially Claremont-era X-Men -- which the movies draw from. What was wrong with the Phoenix cliffhanger -- and why are you complaining about it when you, by your own words, think "it'll be awesome to see the Dark Phoenix next time?"
speaking of horrible character portrayals, when did Spider-hyphen-Man become a mopey emo toolbox?
-
Yup.
But BB was the better "non-super hero" film, and Sin City was the better "comic book" film.
But Solo's right: if we bring manga into this, then Oldboy hands down.

Yeah, I read the comics for years, I know the deal. Sadly the movie did this so poorly it was laughable. Everything seemed forced, perhaps because that sissy boy Cyclops was such a bad character. God I was so happy when Apocalypse killed him, but then a few years later I see a cover of an X-Men comic and guess who's on it - Cyclops. I knew that asshole wouldn't stay dead. Much worse was the decision to make Rogue and Gambit the leaders of the teams. That's what pushed me off the edge. Jean and Storm should have been the leaders and that's a fact.
I WENT OFF ON A TANGET
Yeah, I thought it would be awesome even though the ending was pure shit. But I figured it's pretty fucking hard to ruin such a brilliant story arc, right? WRONG. Not only was the Phoenix story so far off from the truth it was sad, in fact it was so far off it shouldn't be considered Dark Phoenix at all. Now I recognized they weren't going to bust out Shi'ar battleships and THE GLADIATOR for the movie, but god damn it could have been done so much better. Even the murder of ol four eyes didn't strike me as impressive. I remember someone yelling out "ha that taco got wasted!" at the theater, but I could merely sit back and wonder why his death was rushed over so quickly, and even worse: why didn't we see some blood or something so I could at least get a hate hard on
-
so you're just hatin' because it didn't match the comic plots/characters to a tee? why do you like the spider-man movies, then? also, quit conflatin' X2 with X3.
-
Yeah PD, your argument kinda sucks.
-

I already said I knew it wouldn't match. There was no way they could get Shi'ar stuff in there. I cede that. But when you get the characters 100% wrong, that pisses me off.

Well, your brother obviously doesn't know that one must indeed HAVE superpowers to be a SUPERhero.
A know-it-all computer and awesome gadgets doesn't count.

He disagrees and feels that
A. Although Wayne doesn't have superpowers, he is still meta human
B. Batman defeated the entire JLA so he should be considered a superhero
C. Batman can beat Superman in a fist fight*
*assuming he has his gadget belt full of KRYPTONITE. See and that's unfair, but my brother is distinguished mentally-challenged like that. Everytime I ask him how Batman would beat a REAL superhero he tries to set up the environment. IE "pfft, Batman could kick Superman's ass on Krypton" or "pfft, Batman could defeat Wolverine in a magnet factory". And when I tell him motherfucker, adamantium is not magnetic he's all like "well how did Magneto rip it out?" and I'm like OMG
-
Just because some writers make Batman a larger-than-life hero doesn't change the fact that the dude has no actual superpowers. Never bitten by a radioactive bat, nothing.

Remember that "Batman can beat _____" contest IGN had where rabid Batman fans were asked to explain how Batman could beat such advisaries as THE SUN and Galactus? Yeah, Batman fans are fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

Me: Ok, could Batman beat the entire US army assuming they were fighting on FLAT LAND like a desert and they had nuclear weapons
Brother: Obviously yes
Me: So Batman could survive a nuclear blast?
Brother: Wayne Enterprises MADE the nuclear weapon, and the controls are in his gadget belt so all he would do is pull out his nuclear weapon controller and make the warhead turn around in mid ear and kill the US army
Me: That's impossible
Brother: That's Batman

Mystery Men > anything mentioned in this thread.
"I'm a shoveler. I shovel WELL."
-
Yeah, X2 is still my favorite.
Batman Begins would have been if it was released in 1999. I am just so tired of "origin" movies at this point. Show me the origin in 10 minutes, then get into the action/story. I don't need an hour of bad acting scenes on what this heroes "motivation" is.
Spider-man 2 was literally one straight hour of "OH WOW, Peter Parker's real life sucks! He's such a loser in real life!" It almost become comical at how much they beat that over our heads.
-
Batman Begins, with the exception of Katie Holmes, had terrific acting. o_O
-
BTW, there's a disturbing lack of Hellboy love in this thread. The Hellboy movie was at least better than The original Batman/Superman films, come on...

Hellboy rocks. X2 is good, but it's not the best. It's definitely one of the best that the nerd genre has to offer. Here's my Top 10, which less than six years ago, I would've been reaching to even create a Top 5.
1. Unbreakable
2. Batman Begins
3. Spider-Man 2
4. X2
5. Darkman
...
6. V for Vendetta
7. Spider-Man
8. Hellboy
9. The Crow
10. Batman '89

VERY interesting that you include Unbreakable. While it's definitely not a traditional "superhero" movie as defined in this thread, if we include it I'd say it's better than anything listed in this thread.
Why were so many people down on the movie though? I thought it was amazing.
-
Comic book movies:
1. Sin City
2. Batman Begins
3. V for Vendetta
4. X2
5. Hellboy
6. X-Men
7. Spider-Man
8. Batman '89
9. Spider-Man 2
10. Batman Returns
-
If we were doing a straight up comic book thread, Ghost World and Sin City would supplant Batman '89 and Darkman (it's not a comic) on my list.
-
Darkman and Unbreakable are good "in between" movies.
-
Unbreakable tops the list no matter what - it's just an awesome movie.
-
And Dick Tracy was pretty damn badass. Fuck the haters.
Oh, and who could forget A History of Violence?! :punch
-
Eh, A History of Violence and Road to Perdition and Ghost World probably deserve their own separate sub-genre.
-
Comic book movies:
1. Sin City
2. Batman Begins
3. V for Vendetta
4. X2
5. Hellboy
6. X-Men
7. Spider-Man
8. Batman '89
9. Spider-Man 2
10. Batman Returns
I'm loving the first 3 picks. X2 and Hellboy have no business on that list though
Hellboy was extremely average. There was a lot of style, but in the end the character was quite boring and nothing struck me as amazing outside of the steller opening scene with the Nazis.
(I'm not including Unbreakable, although if I did it would be #1)
1. Sin City
2. V For Vendetta
3. Batman Begins
4. Spiderman 2
5. Spiderman
6. Batman '89
7. Superman Returns
8. Batman Returns
9. Men in Black
10.
-
X2 and Hellboy most definitely DO belong on the list, but now after heavy consideration they'd both be under A History of Violence. :punch
MEN IN BLACK?!?! :rofl

DAREDEVIL! <3 Ben Affleck
I thought it was hilarious in a cheesy way.
My nerd list of awesome in NO order:
Hellboy - having not read the comics, I really liked this movie :)
Sin City - this movie kicks all sorts of ass!
V for Vendetta - comic? lol doesnt matter cause its GOOD.
Xmen 2 - its better then 1 and 3 to say the least.
Batman Begins - Batmans raspy mean voice was laughable but it was decent movie with cool CG.
Not so awesome:
Daredevil - lol
X3 - :rofl bad!
Spiderman 1/2 - entertaining but the nerd inside is angry at changes from comics
Superman Returns - lollercaust this movie was bad (edited this in fgj)
older movies Im too lazy to remember
-
Superman Returns would be the biggest letdown of all comic book movies, though. WTF?
-
whut
-
huh
-
Superman returns was horrible.
-
Superman returns was horrible.
I know.
-
V for Vendetta was the best, Sin City was second, Batman Begins was third but I haven't seen it in a long time.
Hellboy really sucked.
-

I can't argue with anyone who puts those movies in the top three, no matter the order. As far as I'm concerned they're the best comic movies period. Personally I put Sin City ahead of V but it's all good.
And god dammit, Hellboy was average at best, distinguished mentally-challenged at worse. Give or take
-
I didn't care much for Sin City, but that's cause it tries to hard to be overly violent.
X2 was pretty awesome, though it has its problems. And after recently thinking about it, the Spiderman movies do indeed seem pretty lame. As ToxicAdam said, they spent way too much time trying to make Peter an emo loser.
-
V for Vendetta was very well done. I just didn't like it. I didn't like the source material either.

-
Sky High is not a superhero film because it sucks
-
Yeah. Stupid Bruce Campbell.
-
Bruce Campbell, Dave Foley and the fat guy from Broken Lizard are the only redeeming parts of the movie.
