Title: VF5 is kind of diappointing
Post by: TVC15 on February 21, 2007, 11:32:32 PM
It looks significantly worse than DOA4, a game that neither has a 7 minute install nor bad load times.  What the fuck is the install for?  Sega needs to take lessons from Team Ninja.

Ugh, the sound in fights is pretty lousy, too.  If I weren't looking at the screen, the sounds could be coming from VF2 if that were my only way to judge.  The hits sound low quality and cheesy.  I swear they are the same hit sounds from older games.

The backgrounds look nicer than DOA4 for the most part, but they don't seem interactive.  And frankly I would've rathered they used the polys to make the fighters not look like the worst bits of plastic since Doom 3.

Yes this and Motorstorm are the only games PS3 owners are going to need this year

VF5 -- much like the Wii -- isn't about the visuals! VF5 -- much unlike the Wii -- is about the quality of the mechanics!

How could you think this looks worse than DOA4? Even if DOA4 was a technical marvel, the characters look so goddamn shitty.

Disagree. VF5 I think actually improves on the core gameplay quite a bit, what with the grand evade and wall juggles. And El Blaze is a great addition.

Admit it, TVC, you're taken in by the Kasumi pillow.

The gameplay is all good.  The game just looks really disappointing.  There's also something "off" about the lighting, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

The models are definitely not up to DOA4 standards.  Not saying the game looks bad, it's just not king of the hill in looks.  I would take DOA4's animu-y style over the VF5 realistic style.  Western devs got over the plastic look several years ago, but Sega sure as heck didn't.  It looked like Jeffrey was covered in oil and wrestling me.  I had to fap.

These oil covered plastic characters sound great to me

I dislike animu.  I'd just rather have a consistent, well-pulled off style than VF5's mishmash of realism and technological faux pas.

the sounds are surely meant to be muffled that way to produce this awesome feeling of being at an arcade

like, it's so comforting to hear the same familiar "swooosh" after a character does this huge lateral kick

TVC: BUY A NEW TV ALREADY!

I'm poor for a while, at least on purchases that big.

Also, I think expecting a game that comes out a full year after DOA4 to look better doesn't make me a graphics whore.

New TV will help you appreciate the gameplay more.

Not really. It lacks the suave graphical touches of Tekken.  Where's the lighting when you do special moves and shit?  VF is totally quaint.

I can't wait to play VF5 next week (hopefully).  I just found DoA4 way too disappointing on 360 (It was reason I badly wanted a 360, since I really like DoA on Xbox and DC), due to the horrid A.I. and online play just not being worth the hassle (with the lag and all).  I really hope VF5 lives up to my expectations, since I'm really itching for a good next generation fighter.  We might not see another until Tekken 6 comes out. :(

It will. Lol tekken, etc.

DOA4 was the first DOA game I think you could even compare to VF and Tekken. SC is always fun though.

(don't forget SC)

Did anyone get the Virtua Stick High Grade?

I forgot all about it and haven't heard anything.

Last night while playing this, I made it freeze.  I was moving through some of the menus in Quest mode really quickly while dressing up my character, and eventually it just froze.  The system was still going, but the next menu wouldn't pop up, even after letting it sit their for a few minutes.  Jesus, Sega sucks.

Sorry, didn't see it - mods don't care about crappy PS3 fighting games :P
