I'm tired of seeing people defend the gamecube with this game. It was boring, controls sucked, scanning sucked, etc.
So please :stfu
-
I agree.
Anyone that calls this a great game has no idea what a great game is.
-
I made a thread about this before, and the usual ninthings defended it to the death. I hate to hate it because it's a very thoughtfully designed visual experience, and the audio is also great, but those controls are unforgivable. A first person game with no freelook while moving? First person games have evolved a little since, you know, Wolfenstein.
-
It was a very good looking game.
-
you forgot how the game takes a sudden 180 in last quarter of the game when it becomes an endless sequence of poorly-planned shootouts and visor/beam swaps. the controls in MP simply aren't designed for SHOOTING ACTION. They're apologism for Nintendo gits who never adjusted to dual analog, and it shows,
-
People use this to justify the gamecube? What..is there to justify gamecube? Killer 7 superior version (which is also on ps2 albeit with ridiculous load times)? Skies of Arcadia Legends (which is also on Dreamcast, it's original console)?
The only thing GC has is Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker. Oh, and Metroid Prime was pretty good up until half when it became stank. It should go on the list, but on the sole reason for a gc purchase.
gc sucks.

Pikmin 2, motherfuckers.
-
Fire Emblem <3
-
DONKEY KONG JUNGLE BEAT
IKARUGA
BATEN KAITOS
-
You guys play unbalanced life-sinks like WoW and just because a game doesn't have free-look you get mad.
-
What..is there to justify gamecube?
SSB: Melee, bitch.
Paper Mario, bitch.
Baten Kaitos Origins, bitch.
Resident Evil 4, bitch.
:gun :gun :gun :gun
-
I love MP1 and MP2.
-
Metroid Prime 2 is garbage.
-
Pikmin is pretty good, I forgot about that.
Still haven't played FE unfortunately. Can't find it.
-
DK Jungle Beat mother fucker HAVE YOU PLAYED IT
oh yeah F-ZERO GX
Fuck you haters the Gamecube has plenty of amazing games

I still love Super Monkey Ball. I haven't played any of the sequels though.
-
MP2 is total shit.
MP1 I did enjoy until the relic hunt shit.
-
I love MP1 and MP2.
High five.
I'm hoping Metroid Prime 3 will make Prime haters turn and start loving the game, considering the new control scheme it'll have.
-
Metroid Prime does have some amazing art direction though. Andrew Jones is the man.
-
MP2 is total shit.
MP1 I did enjoy until the relic hunt shit.
I liked it a lot until the pirates became involved. That was when the game's problems because so apparent. Jesus Christ the part on the space pirate ship. :-\

Same here. The fights afterwards were great though.

That part was quite exciting IIRC
-
I think it is the worst mechanic ever. I have no problem with backtracking, but usually only when I'm going somewhere specific. When I have to backtrack to find shit, I want to rip my hair out.

Lol, I seriously put the game down and didn't play it again for almost a year because of that shit.
-
I don't remember, were there warp points in MP1 to use? If not, they should've been implemented and usable near around the 75% completion mark to make the relic quest actually fun.
The Rdiley fight omg so awesome.
-
Best game ever
-
Why the fuck would I use Metroid Prime to defend the Gamecube when I've got Super Mario Sunshine, Killer7, F-Zero GX and Resident Evil 4?
-
Don't forget smash bros. Now that was a reason to buy a cube.
-
Why the fuck would I use Metroid Prime to defend the Gamecube when I've got Super Mario Shit Feces, Killer7, F-Zero GX and Resident Evil 4?
'fixed'

I often can't stand Mario Sunshine haters because their reasons for it supposedly sucking are usually "BUT IT'S NOT ON PAR WITH MARIO 64 LOL" when Mario 64 is a piece of shit with only a few standout levels.

Mario Sunshine wasn't bad, but all the levels having a tropical theme got old, and the water pack felt like a gimmick, or at very least it just felt wrong in the context of previous Mario game. That same problem (not feeling like a Mario game) was the major problem of the game:
1) Instead of having traditional Mario levels, like The Fire Level, The Ice Level, the Underworld, The Underwater Level, we were left with like 8 (only 8!) levels all centered around tropical locales. While they did all have different themes, the tropicality always shone through. The lack of variety didn't feel right for a Mario game, not to mention that the game had half as many levels as the previous game.
2) Water pack. Well implemented or not, gadgetry has no place in a Mario game. Leave this stuff to Ratchet and Clank and the like. While the water stuff worked fine, it was a level of complexity above what I like from Mario games. I play Mario games to run and jump, and while the water pack did add to some platforming puzzles, a layer of simplicity was removed from the game.
3) The opening of the game. Much like the faux pas in Twilight Princess, Mario Sunshine felt the need to put focus on a story at the beginning of the game, with perhaps the most awful cutscenes of the GC/PS2/XB era. Mario needs not cutscenes? What the fuck is this shit?
Overall, it didn't feel like a Mario game. It felt like some above average (but not great) platformer that had Mario injected into it instead of, I dunno, someone with a goatee.
-
The reason why I loathe Sunshine is the reason why I hate most 3d platformers, shitty camera and controls make judging jumps and making them really difficult and extremely frustrating. Spending 30 minutes trying to get from one platform to another does not constitute good fun
-
You probably suck. The only time I recall the camera being that bad was that one level where you have to climb up that thing behind the ferris wheel.

1. I find this a good thing. I've done the water level, the fire level, the ice level;etc so many times before. Why are people so interested in having to do them again?
2. The water pack was cool. Who cares if it was gadgetry? What's the difference between the "gadgetry" in SMS and the different types of abilities you can get in SMB3 and SMW?
3. Agreed, but the game hardly had any cutscenes. I mean, so what? SM64 had cutscenes.
-
Sorry, Himumu, the game sucked shit. Mario 64 was a Mario game in 3d. Sunshine is well, Shit Sandwich.
-
You probably just werent gay for Mario and didnt bother to try and master shitty controls. The only time I recall the camera being that bad was that one level where you have to climb up that thing behind the ferris wheel.

Ugh. That was one of the worst cases of motion sickness that I've ever experienced in a non-FPS game. :-\
Besides that and Yoshi being useless, I actually liked Sunshine.
-
Himuro, I like you, but you really gotta work on that taste. :P
It wasn't just the fact that Sunshine wasn't as influential as Mario 64 was, but like TVC covered quite nicely, it just didn't feel like a Mario game, and it was quite boring.

1. Because the fire, ice, etc. type levels are what Mario games are all about. Sunshine is the only Mario game to have the same thematic variety throughout the game. And believe me, I love the tropical island setting, but not to see it all the time.
2. That in SM3 and World, you don't get any gadgetry?
-
Work on that taste? What games do you play aside from Nintendo games? Shut up about "taste".
I've played Mario games 1000 x. I don't see what's wrong with one being different from the rest. People complain about games are all the games are the same, and yet people cry afoul when companies actually try something different.
Fuck that noice.
-
At the very least, haters need to admit that the little straight-platforming mini-levels were fucking awesome.
-
Those levels were better than the entirety of Mario 64. If they made a Mario out just those levels it WOULD be the best 3d platformer ever.
-
Of course Metroid Prime sucked. And hey, in case you weren't paying attention, the Gamecube sucked too. I can't believe some of you rectal warts still defend it. Fuck.
-

Lol, chill out, duder. :P
Interestingly enough, the only Nintendo games I 'really' care about are real Mario games, Zeldas and SSB.
Anyhoo, there's a difference between doing something different just to be different, and doing something different that actually works.
