Falwell says Christians shouldn't focus on global warming
LYNCHBURG, Va. The Reverend Jerry Falwell says global warming is "Satan's attempt to redirect the church's primary focus" from evangelism to environmentalism.
Falwell told his Baptist congregation in Lynchburg yesterday that "the jury is still out" on whether humans are causing -- or could stop -- global warming.
But he said some "naive Christian leaders" are being "duped" by arguments like those presented in former Vice President Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth. Falwell says the documentary should have been titled "A Convenient Untruth."
Falwell said the Bible teaches that God will maintain the Earth until Jesus returns, so Christians should be responsible environmentalists, but not what he calls ... quote ... "first-class nuts."

Jerry Falwell Heats Up Global Warming Debate

The Red Carpet goes green as Al Gore took home on Oscar for his documentary on Global Warming, the same day Rev. Jerry Falwell said global warming is much ado about nothing.
"Go back 30 years and it was Global Cooling because the temperatures were lowering. This is cyclical and has been since God created the earth," Falwell said.
He argues that global climate change has always been an issue.
"Global temperature fluctuations are an old, old story, in which relatively brief cycles of warming and cooling recur within longer swings of cooling and warming. There is nothing we can do about this," Falwell told the Thomas Road Baptist Church congregation Sunday.
On the website for Gore's film "An Inconvenient Truth" there's a very different message - it says global warming is real, all ready happening - and that it's not from natural causes. In fact, the website says the evidence is overwhelming and undeniable.
Falwell doesn't buy into that science.
"In spite of all the hype by liberal politicians, the liberal media and radical Hollywood, it is not yet proven that greenhouse emissions are the cause of global warming," Falwell concludes.
The environment gets a nod from Hollywood, but a challenge from Central Virginia's best known religious leader.

Conversative fundies are the best for unintentional humor.

While I certainly don't believe the more alarmist positions on man's influence on the phenomena, there's definitely no denying that global warming is real and presents a problem that's being further fueled by man.
Falwell represents a minority of fundementals on this issue, but I doubt that will stop the inevitable "lolz Christians" slant this news will stir.

what better response to christians than "lolz," honestly
seriously, they believe a zombie will save them and that the world was created by a giant space fairy

I find it hilarious that the most common response from people who don't support environmentalist beliefs is simply: "Well, sure, they say that there's all this global warming business, but I don't think that's true. In fact, it's not."
Rock on, fundamentalists.
