I was discussing this with a co-worker today, and we came to a disagreement about TGTBTU's ending...unfortunately I don't have my DVD with me so I can't verify, but anywayyyy...
SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE'S ENDING AHEAD
...you were warned.
At the end of the movie, when Blondie, Tuco, and Angel Eyes/Setenza have the three-way (lol), my co-worker says that Tuco tried to fire on Blondie. I say, no, Tuco was clearly pointing at Angel Eyes when he tried to shoot his gun.
I'm 99% sure on this but I'd like someone else who's seen the movie to back me up, just so I can tell him so tomorrow. :P

I think everyone is asleep or something

lame. :(

I've never seen this movie too :-\

Good question. You'd think he'd be aiming for Angel Eyes, since him and Blondie are "friends". However, Tuco, as his name suggests, is the "ugly", AKA hes very opportunistic. It wouldnt surprise me if his plan was to let Blondie shoot Angel Eyes, then quickly shoot Blondie, and take the pot for himself. Of course, the joke would be on him, since Blondie wrote nothing on the rock. Im 90% sure he was going for Angel Eyes, but theres that 10% wildcard just because Tuco is unpredictable.

On another tangent, its funny, because I have major man-crushes on both Van Cleef and Eastwood from this era, but Wallach totally steals the show and makes the film. If a lesser actor were in the role, perhaps Im sitting here today putting OUATITW above it.

Tuco 4 L1F3

:heartbeat :heartbeat TUCO :heartbeat :heartbeat
love his last line :heart

Tuco clearly aims at Angel Eyes, then at Blondie in jest after releasizing his gun has been unloaded.
On a related note, my "Man w/ No Name Trilogy" arrived in the mail today! :hyper

Leone wanted Wallach for the role of Cheyenne in OUATITW, but the studio insisted on a more serious actor so they went with Jason Robards. I actually think Robards hits the role out of the park and makes the performance different enough from Tuco so that they're not the same character (the bandit Cheyenne is definitely a romantic in the classical sense). Leone got along really well with both Wallach and Robards. Leone also wanted Wallach for the bandit in Fistful of Dynamite/Giu la Testa, but again the studio insisted on a more bankable star so they went with Rod Steiger, who Leone didn't like at all because he behaved like a prima donna on set and did a lot of weird stuff to get into character.
Anyway, I agree with Dark Shake, Tuco was aiming at Angel Eyes.
BTW, Dark Shake, is this the "old" DVD set that included the American release cut of TGTBTU? There was a special colletor's edition that included the original Italian cut released a couple of years back. The American release is superior in a few ways, though...the dubbing in parts of the extended cut is not so good, and Mickey Knox didn't work on the translation.

Yeah, I'm gonna get the SE as well. I'm the kinda guy who will own multiple cuts of the same film, as long as they are good. I held off on the trilogy for about two years considering the three were rumored to be reissued with 2-disc SEs, but there still hasn't been any word on that. So I gave in and bought the set for $20 from amazon; if they ever do get around the releasing the SEs, I won't have much to cry about. :P
Edit -- And yeah, Wallach really did make the film. He also speaks my favorite line in the film -- "If you're gonna shoot, shoot. Don't talk." :rofl

The 2-disc SEs are out in Europe, if you have a DVD player capable of playing Region 2 PAL DVDs...they were scheduled to come out in the US a couple of years back but then Sony took over MGM and right now I have no clue who has the rights to their classic releases catalogue. They may have been cancelled...the European cuts of the films are slightly longer for the Fistful and A Few Dollars More (mostly some extended shots of violence). I would like to see them get a US release someday, but I'm not that hopeful. :/

:-\
I have a region 1 player.

Having just watched the final duel frame-by-frame, its obvious that Tuco's body is pivoted towards Angel Eyes.
Edit -- Oh, and they showed the Italian cut on Encore Westerns a few days ago, the first time I'd ever seen the footage added into the film. Imo, while it does add some depth, most scenes kind of took me out of the mood -- not to mention the voices sounded a bit too "ADR'ed" (more than the original ones at least, lolz).
-
Yeah, Eastwood's and Wallach's voices have noticeably changed in the past thirty or so years since they first did the dubbing (Wallach especially), so they just don't sound the same.

I'd throw my TGTB&TU DVD in and take some screen caps to solve the question for certain, but you're a dick, so I won't do anything.

Why am I a dick? Because I think you spend way too much money on movies?
-
No, because of the armchair psychology reasons you've proffered as to why I've spent a lot on DVDs.

7 out of 10 psychologists agree, VALIS likes to sit on his couch looking at his massive DVD collection while stroking himself. :-*

Nah, that wasn't it, as I do like to abuse myself while looking at my mountainous DVD collection. :tophat

What will you do if one day the cables hooked up to your electronics spark, setting off a fire and warping all your thousands of DVDs?

Of course I'd be unhappy, but that's one of the things that pissed me off with some of your reactions in that thread. I wasn't showing off. They're just stupid little boxes. I just love watching movies, not owning lots of little plastic rectangles.

When you buy more than you can reasonably watch, there's a problem. Besides, if you just loved watching movies, you'd rent from Netflix and save moneys.

3 movies a day, every day, for 10 years is over 10,000 movies. Piece of cake.
And if not, I'll do like Leonard Maltin and hire people to watch movies for me. Need a job?
