I almost bought it last weekend but then I saw that one of the characters looks like a small shriveled penis and that turned me off.
Why is this game supposed to be mediocre? Other than the penis it looks pretty unique/stylish.
I almost picked up Trauma Center too but then I remembered reading that it got really frickin' hard later on so I didn't. :/
I ended up getting Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime.
I also saw Kirby's Canvas Curse but I don't know anything about it so I didn't buy it.

Rocket Slime is amazing, and Canvas Curse is probably the best Kirby ever... one of the few that offers a good challenge, plus it has some creative level designs (especially towards the end of the game).
-
You should have bought every game in your post, except for the one mentioned in the title.

Yeah, okay, I get that. Mind telling me why, though? What is it about the game that turns people off?
I'm tempted to pick up Canvas Curse as long as the difficulty level is not insane...Trauma Center, too.

It's ugly art style is what turned me off and from the reviews that I've seen, it's a mediocre game.
-
it's an adventure game for little kids. even the BEST DS adventure games are utterly mediocre by genre standards, and TOUCH DETECTIVE is probably the weakest of the lot.

Well, I don't know, I heard Layton was supposed to be pretty cool.

I love the Phoenix Wright games. :(
I agree Trace Memory was mediocre, though...I guess Touch Detective is more similar to that than to Phoenix Wright. :/

Actually, Touch Detective is the most traditional type adventure game to hit the DS yet. Its got charm coming out of the wazoo, a really good localization, has a sweet sense of humor, and really adorable art.
Its also got really sucky puzzles, and the only challenge comes from cycling through your inventory at a given spot and then moving on, you will spend LOTS of time treading similar ground over and over again. So while the production values are MUCH nicer then say, Trace Memory, the gameplay isn't even as good (ouch).
Stick with PW 1 and 2, Hotel Dusk also doesn't suck. Touch Detective is good, but only if you're the type of dude who's hardcore into adventure games (me) and doesn't mind playing one where the puzzles are shite due to the addiction to the genre (me again).
1st EB post, yea!

all of the highly touted ds adventure games have those features you listed. The good localizations, the charm;etc.
The problem with these ds adventures is that the puzzles for the most part are mediocre.
I agree with drinky's assessment that all of the ds adventure games are decent adventure games, but I still love PW1 and 2. Hotel Dusk, not so much. It doesn't come close to the genre's stand out games.

Sadly the genre is practically dead, besides these games.

yeah, for that reason alone I'm keen to like them more than i should
