Title: The Last Boy Scout
Post by: The Sceneman on March 07, 2007, 04:26:50 AM
Just watched it, still the best action comedy ever made. Bruce Willis at his best!

I literally watched it, in the background at the very least, something like 25 times when I was stuck on the East Coast for two months.

Whatever. Semantics. Its still part of the buddy movie genre that TLBS falls firmly into.

Easily my favorite buddy flick ever. It's one of those films that most people havent heard of, but once you convince them to watch it, they become instant converts to its greatness.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

The Last Boy Scout hasn't aged well.  Anything football related seems stupid, as free agency didn't kill the game, and some of the scenes are just dumbright hokey.

The Last Boy Scout is like a Miller Lite to Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's Crown Royale Special Reserve.

Eh, it still has some nice one-liners, if nothing else.  Plus pre-Major Payne Damon Waynes :hyper

What the fuck? If you knew anything about Shane Black, you'd know his films are pretty much all cut from the same mold.

I think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang represents a real maturity in his screenwriting process, probably because for the first time ever, he had directorial control.  It's a really accomplished piece of work across the board.

Plus, he also wrote The Monster Squad, which is nothing like either film!

Best not to go into too much detail, because it's awfully convoluted and crazy, but Damon Wayans and Bruce Willis both play good guys with trouble lives/pasts that must solve the mystery of all the dead bodies that leads to one of the most powerful businessmen in California!

The plot doesn't make too much sense, it's more or less an excuse for Bruce Willis to go around saying, "... if you do that again, I'm going to kill you."  Will he make good on his promise?  Only time will tell!

I have come to the realization just now that bald Willis is better looking than receding hairline Willis.

DAAAAMN THAT'S A BIG PUSSY
DAAAAMN THAT'S A BIG PUSSY
Why'd you say it twice?
I didn't.  It was the echo.

Indeed. I also love how KKBB was basically Black taking the piss out of the genre that made him famous. Thats one of the greatest things about KKBB, it turns most the the genre cliches and conventions around on their heads. Also, Downey Jr. is fucking awesome in this. Kilmer is awesome too, but this is totally Downey's show. Coincedence that the 3 Downey Jr. performances I remember from recent years (Wonder Boys, KKBB, Zodiac) are the best in each respective film? I think not. Fuck, Im gonna go see fucking Iron Man opening weekend just for him!

I can't believe they almost cast Johnny Knoxville in the Lockhart role. :duh
