I've always liked Captian America and been impressed with his evolution as a character. He went from an almost generic Superman-esque character to a more mature, emotionally varied one. After coming back from being frozen I loved the way how his old views of America stood in contrast to what he saw in the new America, and how he always fought to preserve an honest and pure country.

This sounds like a stupid move but I guess someone had to die... :(

Never heard of trade paperbacks, Shake? Those are the real moneymakers when Marvel films come out - not one shots and bi-weeklys. Dur. Captain America doesn't need to be alive for those to sell.

We're not talking about storylines - we're talking about dead characters. One of Quesada's biggest mandates has always been that Marvel cannot kill characters on a whim. If Rogers is dead, he is going to stay dead for awhile.

If anything, Quesada should be criticized for bringing characters back from the dead before his rule as EIC. Like Colossus and Psylocke and such. He says their deaths sucked, and excuses their resurrections as so. But in terms of killing characters and bringing them back - that hasn't happened.

Actually, I take that back, because Magneto got retconned pretty quick.

Ah ok. With respect to current X-Men, I posted this on GAF earlier today:

Hm this sounds kinda dumb. I was a huge, huge X-Men fan for years. I'm definitely not ashamed to admit that the Onslaught thing really got me hooked on comics; before then I was a casual reader who'd just hang out at the comic store or read my uncle's old comics. Hey I was young.

I collected X-Men and Uncanny X-Men quite religiously for years and saw the various major story changes, such as the whole Josheph/Magneto thing or Xavier being detained for his role in Onslaught. Whenever I hear about current Marvel stuff I hear a lot about these crossovers, but back when I read comics they seemed rarer. There was an Apololypse crossover that spanned all the X books though, and it ended with me rejoicing in joy: the death of that asshole bastard Cyclops.

After the first X-Men movie came out my interest in the comic began to wane. It felt like the comics were purposefully being dumbed down to attract casual fans of the movie. I'm far from an elitist prick, but this really disturbed me mainly because of the devolution in storytelling. I mean, they went back to the generic "hello I'm the villian let me tell you my mutant power!" bullshit.

When I heard Chris Claremont was coming back to the series for X-Men #100 I was very excited. He then proceded to really make me less interested by introducing a totally stupid storyline. But what finally pushed me over the edge was his decision to make ****ing GAMBIT and ROGUE the leaders of the X-Men. WTF was that shit. Now I'm a diehard Wolverine fan so I knew he wasn't fit to be placed in a leader position (more of a mentor, advisor, asskicking position), but Jean and Storm were the opposite. They should have become the leaders dammit. That pissed me off so much at the time that after a few more issues I just stopped buying comics entirely, never to come back.

Whedon's Astonishing X-Men was the exception and I love it to death, it is the best thing related to the X-Men since well ever. Better than the cartoon(easily), the movies, and the comics I tried to like. I own the TPB's of it and they are the only comics worthy of being owned by CHEEBS

SHIT I forgot Batman Year One. Outside Astonishing that is the only one I like. And no I don't like any Frank Miller stuff like Dark Night Returns, I find them weird.

I loved V for Vendetta the movie but when I flipped through V for Vendetta and Watchmen I was meh'ed

Claremont is insane. He made X-Men WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY to sci-fiy after a couple years of doing the comic. His first few years were good though.

Which is odd, really, because his run on Fantastic Four before he went back to X-Men was awesome.

It doesn't look like Aunt May is dead at the end of the last ASM. She wasn't shot in the head, and it didn't look that serious. I'm guessing she'll be in a coma for a while.

I wouldn't have minded at all if they killed her off or MJ.
