One of the best burns I've seen of this guy in a long while. Funny stuff, especially if you've ever read his real blog.  :lol

But remember, anyone that gives him shit is just jealous of his success!

And the fact that he's having sex with his superhot wife!

Kevin Smith is awesome, I love his blog.

I don't like him, but I admit he's a smart guy.  I've yet to see anyone successfully own him.

I dont like Smith. No because of his success or his trophy wife, but simply because I dont like his movies.

If she's a trophy, what'd the loser end up getting?  :lol

I used to like his movies till I realized he was using the same formula over and over again.  It's gotten tired, and he refuses to experiment.  As much as I dislike Chasing Amy I admit that it's the closest thing he's gotten to a good movie.

Ichirou trolling the hell out of the thread.  And I love him for it.

his  movies, other than jersey girl are intended for a niche audience and his movies are very low budget so it doesn't matter. People hating Smith won't change the fact he has a loyal fanbase big enough to bring him(and the Weinsteins) the $$$.

Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Clerks II were loved by the critics, yes. Don't forget though Jersey Girl and Mallrats(mallrats rocks :() were HATED by the critics and most were split on Dogma.

That's not a lie, it's an opinion.  I guess they might actually realize it and somehow not mind (because they don't realize they're nothing but a tool for him to feed his own ego and bank account), but that doesn't change the fact that severe milking is taking place.

If he was milking his audience, he'd contantly re-release the same films all the time with minor touch-ups and claim they have to see it (Lucas, Spielberg, anyone?). He's only guilty of re-releasing his old films on new special edition DVDs, which are usually worth the loot. Tell me how else he's "milking" his fans.

But let's stop talking about this, dude.  We've been getting along pretty well since I started posting on this forum and this is always going to be a sticking point between us.  Let's just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Dude, most films have action figures made for marketing. Even fuckin' Reservoir Dogs, for god's sakes! If anything, Smith is doing those action figure fetishist fans of his something extra, by overseeing the productions himself and not having crappy figures that say "snootchie bootchies!" or whatever.

I would say he's doing himself a little extra, since he oversees the productions himself I'm sure that means he gets a bigger piece of the pie.

But like I said, why keep talking about this?  We're never going to agree on this.  I think Smith is a businessman first and foremost, and his films are made to sell to a small but dedicated audience which will then buy all the ancillary products related to it.  He has a fanbase that has brought him in a lot of money, and he will continue to feed the beast as long as it brings in more money for him.

You think he's awesome because he's doing this for the love of the fans...I don't happen to believe that.

Let's just leave it at that.

I actually don't think he's all that awesome, as a matter of fact. In my opinion he should have moved into stand-up comedy years ago; Clerks II is the best film he's done in a while, and even that had less laughs than his "Evening With" series.

Making movies brings in more money for him. Then he can do his "lecture" series (i.e., stand-up comedy bits) and charge money for entrance fees and then sell the DVDs.  He's got a nice little cottage industry set up, and he's not about to change how it works.

See, now you're faulting him for being a businessman. If you had fans who were willing to shell out cash to watch your films or even hear you speak, you're telling me you wouldn't do it? ::)

Seems you're just nit-picking now. There are PLENTY of filmmakers in the industry who are staunchy businessmen, and you're picking on a guy who is nothing compared to them?

No, I'm not picking on him, I'm just saying the guy is a businessman more than he is a filmmaker.  I'd say that about George Lucas too.  Lucas is just more successful at it and was able to tap into a deeper vein.

There are movies where she looks sexier and I don't have to watch a bunch of other crap.

Shake: yeah, it was put together really well.  I'll give it that.  I just found it really boring and REALLY unfunny.  There were parts that made me EL OH EL, but for the most part, it made me just want to die.  I'll never forget the first time I saw Buddy Christ though :heartbeat

Like I said, I don't hate everything Kevin Smith has done.  Chasing Amy is a great story (and one of my favorite movies actually) and Clerks is pure fucking awesome.  The guy is just really hit and miss with me.  And God, his loyal fans are nuts.

Fanboys tend to be a violent lot.

I dunno, I don't think that's always true.  I find animu fanboys to be weak and effeminate for the most part.

It's the Smith, comic book, sports, and Star Wars fanboys you've gotta watch out for.

Himuro, change your name back.  It'll be like when Hammer turned back to MC Hammer, and Arsenio was all "HE PUT THE MC BACK!!! HE PUT THE MC BACK!!!"  Srsly, don't be afraid of liking anime.  I love Gundam and Sakura Taisen, and I don't care who knows it.

I'm not afraid of liking anime. I'm ashamed of my past when I created this nick 8 years ago when I was a japafag. There's nothing wrong with liking anime, being a japafag is, and having a japa name is a nono.

I have a Japanese nickname.  I see it as no different from people who name themselves after games or game characters.  Whateva.  I DO WHAT I WANT.

Why were you a Japafag?  Did you think Japan was better than everything?  Did you worship animu above all else?  Did you collect figures of anime girls?

Kevin Smith's hilarious, and he made a successful movie for $30,000.

He's got my respect.
