Today I did an under-the-table side job which cost me nothing in materials, and netted me three bills . Since this was basically free money aside from my time, I've decided to take the PSP plunge. Evilbore, recommend me PSP games (I have enough for two full-price games) and accessories. What do I need to fully exploit the potential of this device?
-
Go buy a DS Lite!

Tekken DR, Dexter, GTA LCS, Gradius collection, Exit, and Valkyre Profile
I play the ds more though
-
+1 for Exit, I'm also enjoying MGA2
I use my PSP more as a video player than anything else though, so the most necessary accessory for me has been a big memory stick
-
I already have a DS lite and several games. I wanted the PSP for different reasons, and because I had the extra money to burn. Exit sounds kinda cool, and the price is right, so I might give that a spin. I bought the PSP and a 1 gig memory stick with my cash, and I traded in some stuff for SW: Battlefront 2 and the Capcom Classics collection.
Now, how do I rip DVDs and shit onto the stick?
-
Battlefront 2 is unimaginably awful. Get Daxter, Syphon Filter, Hot Shots Golf, Metal Gear Acid 2, Tekken DR, Wipeout Pure, Ridge Racer, Megaman Powered Up (or Maverick Hunter X), and/or Gradius Collection.

Listen to this man.
PSP is trash, at least until Silent Hill comes out. Get a DSLite and some games. You probably already have Tekken and Jack&Daxter on the PS2; no point in wasting monies on portable downgrades!
-
The DS doesn't have any games worth playing, though, unless you're into disposable mini-game nonsense or downgraded N64 ports!
-

And I enjoy it, but PSP has so many portable porn possibilities it isn't even funny.
I don't own a PS2. I liked Battlefront on the Xbox, so I figured what the fuck. It was only $17 used, and that was trade-in money so it didn't count.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhAhAHAHAHA
You obviously don't know what your talking about.
-
Holy shit, that's one thick motherfucking manual. You really can do a ton of multimedia shit with this system.
-
I own a DS Lite and three games. I own a PSP and 17 games. I do in fact know what I'm talking about.
-
How many of those games do you also have on your PS2? :hurr :hurr :hurr
DS Lite FTW
-Mario Kart
-Castlevania
-Metroid Hunters
-Fuckin Super Mario Bros
-Trauma Center
-Advance Warz
And on and on! Plus by the end of the year there will be
-FFIII
-Yoshi Island 2
-Castlevania again
-etc etc
DS LITE FLAWLESS VICTORY :nuhuh
-
I own a DS Lite and three games. I own a PSP and 17 games. I do in fact know what I'm talking about.
Sounds like game preference. DS imo has more good games then PSP, me personally I can't think of 17 good PSP games.

I can't think of 17 PSP games period :lol
-
None! There's very little PS2->PSP crossover outside of EA and Rockstar.
Metroid Hunters is appalling shite that wouldn't even fly in 1997. The online experience for the DS is retrograde. Mario Kart is a port, as is Advance Wars, at least by the standards you judge the PSPs "ports" by.
-
I have 9 PSP games, 5 DS games.
It comes down to this. Owning both is great. DS is fairly priced so its possible, for one.
Its just DS is in a situation where there are plenty of good games, but finding them is hard since distribution is ass. If you are going to get DS or HAVE a DS, pre-order always.
PSP has plenty of good games too, but you can FIND them, I own a lot of great PSP games oh shit cats attacking my hands...anyway, people who say PSP has no good games are clearly fucking stupid.
People who say the DS is just a bunch of ports and rehash are right..almost everythin NOT from Nintendo is, and most of Nintendos stuff are sequels and 'ports' but its good ports ua777888damn fcat. I dunno, I mostly use my DS for GBA games anyway so whatever.
In short, own both if you can, you really cant go wrong. Games I recommend for PSP:
Wipeout Pure - 20 bux now
Hot Shots Golf Open Tee - 20 bux too!
Daxter - Masterful platforming, there is no equal. I am literally stunned by the quality.
Valkyrie Profile - Wont get a better RPG on PSP
Exit - Fun and challenging puzzle based gaming, and usually 20 bux
Tekken Dark Resurrection - Stunning fighter that really uses the PSP hardware. AIs a little weird tho in the Dojo
Gradius Collection - Not owning this is dumb, its an amazing collection of awesome.
-
If you're into mini-games or puzzle game shovelware, of course you'll find the DS library more to your tastes. But if you're into actual GAMES, PSP for the win!
-
Please explain...saying that makes you sound a BIT biased without an explanation/proof.
-
17 indisputably good-to-awesome PSP games:
1. Exit
2. Megaman Powered Up
3. Maverick Hunter X
4. Ultimate Ghouls and Ghosts
5. Ridge Racers (not a port)
6. Wipeout Pure (not a port)
7. Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee (not a port)
8. Syphon Filter (not a port)
9. Tekken: Dark Ressurection (not a port)
10. Daxter (not a port)
11. Metal Gear Acid
12. Metal Gear Acid 2
13. Guilty Gear Judgment (expanded port from Xbox)
14. Valkyrie Profile (port from PSOne)
15. Capcom Classics Collection Remixed (different games from PS2)
16. Gradius Collection
17. Lumines
Okay games worth a look: Virtua Tennis, Field Commander, Legend of Heroes 1 and 2, Grand Theft Auto LCS, SFA3, Darkstalkers, Namco Battle Museum.
Awesome imports: Princess Crown, Star Soldier.
Note the extreme lack of PS2 ports!
-
acid 2 is supposed to fuckrock.
UGnG is out soon too :D
-
Awesome DS games:
1. New Super Mario Brothers
2. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
3. Advance Wars DS
4. Viewtiful Joe DS (I will buy this soon)
Okay games: Sonic Rush (loathe the soundtrack, dig the mechanics)
Everything else is largely disposable stank. Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center styled shit are incredibly shallow and underdesigned compared to PC equivalents, Mario Kart DS is an unplayable ugly mishmash of poor design and sloppy networking, Metroid Prime Hunters would be barely tolerable to PC gamers back in '97, and the puzzle game detritus is bested by ANYTHING on PopCap or MSN Zone. Most of the shit on the DS wouldn't fly if it was on the $4.99 rack at Wal-Mart. Don't bring up the non-gaming crap, because I ain't your grandma or your ADD-addled kid sister.
Most DS fans lack any real experience within gaming because they refuse to play a PS2 or a PC, where most of gaming's quality resides. That's the price they pay for being Nincore or subcasual gamers.
I anticipate FF3 and Yoshi's Island 2.
-
Just own both, is it that hard to have good gaming? Jesus, system loyalists boggle the fuck outta me.
-
I own both! I ain't gonna miss out on good games.
-
ditto! let the good times roll!
-
Still can't believe Daxter is as awesome as it is. It's lightyears beyond the Jak games -- it's like Rayman 2 all over again!
-
May I suggest these fine games, for you are surely missing out:
New Super Mario Bros
Megaman Zx
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Mario Kart DS
Advance Wars Dual Strike
Mario & Luigi
Sonic Rush
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble
Guilty Gears Dust Srikers
Bleach DS
Unless you already have them.
-
Screenshots for Daxter look really, really nice. I think it's between that and Syphon Filter for my first cash-money PSP game.
So, PSP links which show me cool shit I can do with the PSP. I request some.
-
New Super Mario Bros own it, love it
Megaman Zx will own it, looks awesome
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow own it
Mario Kart DS generic mascot racing crap
Advance Wars Dual Strike own it
Mario & Luigi vastly inferior to the original M&L
Sonic Rush might buy it when price drops
Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble will buy it
Guilty Gears Dust Srikers crap, buy a PSP
Bleach DS weak crap, even for post-Saturn Treasure
-
Get Daxter as your first game! DO IT! and get wipeout pure or hotshots cause theyre 20 :)
-
Web browsing is kind of fun, if slow. Very readable. Jesus Christ, the fucking "keyboard." PERIPHERAL, PLEASE.
-
Wow. I have a ton of Golden Age Comics (1930s - 50s) that I've scanned or downloaded over the years, saved on disc. I just tried out the PSP photo viewer with a few. Wow. So clear and readable, and the viewer controls are excellent and intuitive. That's worth $200 to me right there.
I have the feeling you and I are going to be very good friends, PSP.
-
MGA sucks, get GTA.
-
Syphon Filter
Wipeout Pure
The only two "must buy" games I've played. Maybe Lumines if you aren't going to get it on live or whatever.
Daxter bored the shit out of me, but I only played it maybe an hour and a half. Wannabe conker, without the charm.
-
Only get Lumines if you know you love puzzle games. I gave it a go because I heard of how awesome it was, but I just couldn't get into it because I'm not a huge fan of most puzzle games.
-
I'm an old crone who likes puzzle games, but I thought Lumines was overrated. I actually found myself playing Meteos more, and Meteos is pretty average at best.
-
If you dont get Daxter I will be REALLY MADDDDDDDD
-
2 best games on the system are:
Me & My Katamari and Tekken: Dark Resurrection
If you want to import somthing go with Bleach: Heat the Soul 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51OtEgfpNyo)
-
goddamn this system rocks so much
i can't stop fucking around with it
best dvd ripping programs/vid converters suggesions, please
-
This Daxter jacking almost makes me want to get a PSP.
-
This Daxter jacking almost makes me want to get a PSP.
It's an awesome game. :) Best platformer on a console or handheld in years.
-
best dvd ripping programs/vid converters suggesions, please
I use PSP Video 9 to convert Bleach Fansubs.
-
Daxter is badass shittttttttttt
-
Daxter is indeed awesome. Are the Jak and Daxter games for the PS2 this good? I may have to think about getting a PS2 sometime in the future.
Also, DVD ripping = easy. I don't know why everyone was complaining about how complicated it is on every site I checked out. I ripped a bunch of clips this afternoon, and an episode of Band of Brothers.
PSP = Tits
-
Loco Roco is silly fun. I've been playing the demo I downloaded off the PSP site. I usually hate this type of half-game, but the tunes are catchy and the art style is cute. I ain't payin' 40 fucking dollars for it, though.
-
Daxter is > jak games lol
-
So far Daxter is a great platformer which is nearly ruined by stupid, frustrating minigames. I'd like to use my psp as a bludgeon on the fucking idiot who made that "steam" minigame.
-
the mini-games are optional, and the driving portions of the game arent hard. SO im not sure what youre talking about, the boss-fights arent even really mini-games.
Steam dial thing took a few tries but its something to beat. I enjoyed the challenge. Considering the game gives you unlimited lives I think there needs to be challenge SOMEWHERE.
-
Every minigame I've played so far is mandatory - the Matrix "dream" and the "steam" scenario. All they are is "tap this button when it flashes on the screen," which is just boring repetition no matter what movie parody you sling over it. If I want to play Simon, I'll go buy Simon. It's gamestopping, to me at least. I'll agree the infinite lives make it too easy. It would have been better had they implemented a system of "earning extra lives" or at the start of the game gave you the choice of how many total lives you'd get. Infinite lives make the deaths seem kind of pointless. Still a good game, but fuck Matrix parodies and reflex button mashing.
-
the matrix dream was manditory? I didnt fail it so I wouldnt know, the first time you do that game its not hard, and the games after that ARE manditory.
If the steam game was boring it was 10 seconds of boring, unless of course you are bad at it, then its challenging and maybe frustrating.
It took me five tries to get the steam gauges aligned, but when I did *shrug*. The matrix game isnt button mashing, it requires precise timed taps. IN fact if you mash you get dinged for not hitting the right button, you get dinged for even hitting the right button at the wrong time.
Now ive been accused of sucking at games, but while the steam gauge 'boss fight' was challenging, the matrix game was not.
-
Get the import Guilty Gear game.
-
Does the import Guilty Gear Judgment have GG XX Slash included?
-
Does the import Guilty Gear Judgment have GG XX Slash included?
I think Guilty Gear Judgement is the localized port of japan's Guilty Gear XX #Reload I was talking about with added modes. I believe slash is only for PS2 ( I have it and it rocks.)
-
By "button mashing," I mean the game tells you what button to mash, and there's no strategy involved. I just don't like minigames like that, especially ones which completely fail you at one misstep (for me, usually the very last press). They're just very incongruous additions to the adventure/platforming main action aspects of the game. As for the Matrix game, I kept having to replay it because it took me forfuckingever to figure out that you had to tap the button when the enemy crossed over it - I was tapping it as soon as I saw the button pattern appear. It was never explained in-game. Basically, I like the game a lot, but I hate the filler. Give me an extra level, or a time challenge, but fuck all the "follow the bouncing ball" type shit.
-
There's a recent JP release of Judgment (I have the JP PSP #Reload) and supposedly it includes Slash instead of #Reload.
-
Get the import Guilty Gear game.
I don't know what Guilty Gear is.
-
One of the best if not THE best 2D fighting game series of all time. The PSP port of #Reload is brilliance.
-
Isn't it based on some Anime show? I don't know much anime. I have a friend who's into all that stuff, but my anime knowledge begins and ends with Cowboy Bebop and Ninja Scroll.
-
Nope. It's an original IP.
-
are you mashing the button out of anger?
Mashing is usually used when referring to hitting more buttons than once. I assume the game is actually just telling you which button to press, and at what time to press it. Which I have admitted CAN be difficult, but I hardly find the button presses in the mini-game any different than the many you make to jump or swat things with a fly swatter.
If anything it should be easier since its telling you when to do it to win :)

Finally something we both can agree on. :)
Eel_O_Brian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guilty_gear
Anyway drinky a good way to find out if it indeed includes Slash stuff check for the character Order Sol, for he is slash exclusive.
-
Also, Guilty Gear is good.
-
Isn't ABA playable in Slash, too?
-
Isn't ABA playable in Slash, too?
Yes.
-
are you mashing the button out of anger?
I was after a while in that Matrix minigame. It's funny, the characters usually give you advice on what you're supposed to do throughout the game, but there wasn't any pop-up for that.
Mashing is usually used when referring to hitting more buttons than once.
I know, like in fighting games. I just didn't know what other term to use.

Yeah, but I guess I just don't like being led by the nose like that. I understand that platformers and most other types of games structurally do the same thing, but at least there's the illusion of choice, and you do have a certain amount of freedom in how you achieve the goal of getting from point A to point B, or how you defeat your enemies. I also don't like having to repeat an entire minigame just because I accidentally hit the wrong button with the edge of my thumb.
-
I think the lack of 'tutorial' for the mini-games has to do with them not really being a 'part' of the main game. Its a flaw, I agree.
I just dont see the difference between the steam gauge sequence and killing a giant bug. I think of the two the steam thing can be the most frustrating because its easy to lose your cool and just botch it, but starting over is quick.
-
Daxter is badassed BUY IT
Ghosts 'N Goblins cant wait fuck yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
