Can the US afford anymore candles?

Don't leave till it's done
What the US needs is a draft. I hope they don't exclude college students this time.  >:(

I like the US just fine, but if there is ever a draft that involves college students, I'm moving the fuck to Canada.

Or we are. It's like the new Cold War, except it isn't cold. It's going to last fucking forever (most of the century) or at least it will if Republican presidents are continually elected.

It'll still be that way even if the Democrats are in.  What, are we going to pull out and sit by as the country destroys itself?  At the very least, UN will send in a force and we'll go with.

Sitting by while a country destroys itself is better than being in the midst of a country destroying itself.

If a Democrat wins we will still be there but it will a mish-mash little movement of soilders to the Kurdish safer area of the country and they'll swoop in when needed pretty much. So yeah, still there.

When 9/11 happened, the boy I was seeing was a few months shy of 18 and I was afraid then that they'd reinstate the draft. They didn't and I hope they never do. Besides my own selfish reasons of not wanting loved ones sent away, I really think it takes something away from our armed foces.

There is something to be said about all the men and women who are serving because they WANT to. There's something beautiful about it being volunteer [not as in unpaid, but as in not required]. I think if you took a bunch of those people who want to serve and add to them a bunch of people who are only there because Uncle Sam said so, it would hurt morale.

Yeah, but if the war is just, it shouldn't matter.  I mean, people should WANT to go.  Look at WW II- not only did we have a drafted army, we had people at home WILLINGLY SACRIFICE to help ensure victory.  Short rations, women going to work in factories to help manufacture stuff for the war effort, etc.  In contrast, Bush told us to keep buying shit like nothing had happened.

Yeah, except a lot of them are just volunteering because they have no other real options.

Someone mentioning 9/11 in a topic about Iraq without falsely trying to connect it to the Iraq War, that is a very welcome suprise.  :hump
