Title: Oops, I'm unemployed once again
Post by: Human Snorenado on March 19, 2007, 06:35:26 PM
Quit my job on Thursday with the anticipation of getting hired on at a new place that I had a good in with.  (Family member used to work for this guy, he had already said he would set up a meeting with his HR people to "determine the best department for me")

Well, now I can't get this guy at the new place on the phone and he's not answering my emails.  I don't really want to use my family connection to get to him, (HEY REMEMBER YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO HIRE MY NEPHEW, TALK TO HIM GODDAMMIT) so I guess I'm back at square one unintentionally again.  I'm thinking about going back to school for real this time.

You may now all say I am stupid for quitting my job without having something else lined up officially.  Again.  For the second time in six months.

Sorry to hear that man. Although I don't understand the point in quitting a job before you're 100% positive you can move right into another one

Is there any reason why you made the same mistake twice?  Do you think you'll ever do it again?

High five dude, I haven't had a job since January. Being unemployed is the best.

I got this job at a factory last wednesday and quit the same day :lol . I'm going to an interview tomorrow to become a secuirty guard (planning to take up law enforcment in the future). Part time security guard and Criminal Justice on the side. Heres hoping it pans out.

And I hope everything works out for you too Triump. The thing about being unemployed for a while is that you get kinda worried if you can go back to the 9-5 grind... :-\

I dunno, I wouldn't have done it again except that the job that I interviewed for and the job I was doing were basically two completely different things.  On my first day my boss said, "Oh, and we'll need to go over dealing with how to handle the residents requests and complaints."  I was hired to do purely administrative, paperpushing shit at a nursing home.  I was assured that dealing with the residents was something I wouldn't be doing, and then on the first day was told something completely different.  I was supposed to be training for the first 90 days, and really only trained for the first month or so that I was there.  The last two weeks I hardly saw my boss at all- she'd just say, "You're on this today" and then disappear for the rest of the day.  Not my idea of being "trained", per se.  So it wasn't a situation that I was going to put up with long term.

Then this other thing kind of opened up, but apparently it didn't.  I suppose I should go back to school, I only really have about two years left anyhow.

Look to get on with Securitas.  They're one of the biggest security companies in the US and have some of the biggests contracts (higher paying jobs).  That was the contractor I started with before I got hired on at Halliburton.

Thats who I talked to today. My cousin is also employed by them. I'm just doing this so I can build up flow to move out west with him and a friend.

But anyways, the chick thats supposed to interview me is frackin hot...oh my god. I trimmed my ghetto beard and errrthing for tomorrow :>. I'll probably wear my diamond earrings too since she looks really laid back and probably wouldn't care for that stuff :-*

Well, I just got off the phone with my friend that has a commercial production company, and he said I could hold a boom mic a couple times a month for a few hundred dollars each time.  LOLZ.  He also said I could sit in on editing and learn the program.  That could be cool.

Awesome!  Hit on her!  :drool

Just make sure to check your paycheck every fucking time.  I can't tell you how many "mistakes" I found on my check when I worked for them.

But seriously, it's even a good job to have if you want to jump ship to something else.  Considering how stupid most Security Officers are, if you have even the slightest bit of intelligence, it will go a long way.  You WILL get moved to a good paying post and there's a good chance you can get hired on to do something else.  Look for something where you work in a command center, it's good stuff to have on your resume for anywhere.  And it'll be even better since you want to move into law enforcement.

Philosophy.  :lol

No, I was working on a history degree but mostly my core stuff is done, so I guess I could do anything I wanted, although I would have to take a foreign language.  Which is fine, this time I would take Spanish and actually learn it instead of pretending to learn all the other foreign languages I've taken.  (German, Latin, Portugese)

What was your GPA like? Maybe you should finish school and go to grad school. I hear they like to give out loans in the US.

Yes, yes they do.  My GPA was hovering in the 3.0 range when I stopped going.

You have more hair and are a Republican.  So, maybe so!

I could also try and turn one of my old short stories into a film script and exploit all my contacts into getting it turned into a movie, I suppose.

Funny you mention that, because I just so happen to be trying to sell my own script with this producer I met a week or two ago. So good luck with that, duder.

Also, glad your job situation is working out for ya. At least, that's what I think you said, but I'm not gonna scroll back up and check. >:P

You and TVC need to finish writing Black Caligula and get it sold, STAT.

I need to get him focused on that again.

And Willco, I was talking about people who've actually, you know, sold a movie before.  Ha!

...but if you can help me get something done, I'm working on three different things, one of which is called "Misogynist's Love Story", the heartwarming tale of a young man that keeps getting hit by women.

Nah, being unemployed is AWESOME.  I've come to the conclusion that the only jobs I'm really suited for are either eccentric, reclusive author or eccentric, reclusive rich guy.  There are certain things that I have to take care of that require money, and for that I need a job.  Alas.

I just got my first paycheck from my new job today.

Being employed is pretty sweet, but I work from home so my view might be a little skewwwwed.

I'm gonna blow it all on games!
