Jonah Nolan (Writer Of The Prestige, Memento, & THE DARK KNIGHT) is writing Spielberg's next(after indy IV/lincoln back-to-back shooting this year) film, a sci-fi epic called Interstellar.

Now THIS is exciting news.
-
What's the chances of Indy IV being better this?
-
what is the premise behind interstellar?

really, really, really low. I don't trust a script that the George Lucas of today would approve.
Is he still using Liam Neeson for Abe Lincoln?
-
This, ladies and gentleman, kicks ass.
I was talking to my friend Paul on the internet and he was having a shitty night. This news alone made him happy.
-
what is the premise behind interstellar?
We know very little. It is a space adventure involving a wormhole.
And yes, Liam is Lincoln. Indy IV is out the summer of 2008 and Lincoln is looking like fall of 2008 for release.

meh. Spielberg is an average director and his sci fi movies are even more so, especially when compared to the brilliance of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner.

You hate blade runner. Sarcasm CONFIRMED

Interstellar, from what I have gathered from the limited info leaked out thusfar, seems to be Spielberg's 2001.
-
Well, given how badly he raped AI, I can't say I have high hopes for this, Nolan or no Nolan.

How does this have ANYTHING to do with AI? He has done many other sci-fi movies than AI.
-
AI was supposed to be a Kubrick flick...
-
I just meant that if it's being touted as Speilberg's 2001, then that's probably a bad thing, since he's clearly not capable of emulating Kubrick.
-
It isn't trying to emulate 2001 at all. It is Spielberg's 2001 in that its his serious almost science fact based sci-fi epic. It isn't like 2001 in PLOT or anything.

Let's see if he can do it.

People are mis-understanding Solo. :lol It isn't like 2001 at all!
It's Spielbergs 2001 because it's his serious dramatic science fact(loosely obviously) based sci-fi adventure. It won't feel like 2001 nor will it have a plot like 2001 at all! It will be a serious damatic sci-fi adventure like it but it will still like all Spielberg films (most likely) be character based and have a happy somewhat sappy ending.
-
Weeeeelll, I'm not going to judge it based on what little info is out there. Any more than I have, at least.
If he pulls it off, that's great. But I'm just sick of - as Cheebs said - that whole sappy ending, moralising thing that he does with every one of his films. His work has been very forgettable of late.
-
He isn't changing that ever I think. I saw a big doc on him film just like a year ago and he was asked about that and he talked about how important happy endings are to him...etc. Spielberg's trademark endings are part of his career and won't be going away.

2001 is a horrible movie so hopefully this is more like Steven Spielberg's Forrest Gump. In space
-
If more sci fi movies were like 2001, I'd like that genre A LOT more.

Go see sunshine. Its a heavy dramatic character piece set in space with a plot. Thats exactly what 2001 was.

It will never be like 2001. Spielberg movies are very character driven, 2001 was not.

see now, I asked what Sunshine was in that thread and no one replied.

Bingo. Im not trying to say its a remake of 2001, but that it will be the 2001-esque film in his filmography.

Yeah. It seemed everyone with the topic ran with the idea this is a film based on 2001 or something.

Sunshine looks horrible. It's like a Michael Bay movie, but since it's some "cool" director everyone's all like omg
-
It was the cheesey movie trailer music that put me off in the Sunshine trailer. I expect great things though.
