Hell, it's better than WoW :o
So who is playing this shit, and if you're not, why aren't you? It's a MMORPG that is centered around different kinds of puzzle games inside a cutesy pirate universe. Versions of Puzzle Fighter, Bust-a-Move, Panel de Pon (Puzzle Attack), Tetrisphere, Bejewelled, Chu Chu motherfucking Rocket and more await all you land-lubbers! If you've EVER liked ANY puzzle games, then the previous sentance should've made you bust all over yourself and have you asking where to sign up. Check this thit out! And now, there's an option to either play via a monthly subscription ($9.95 a month) or FREE, using "dubloons" as a payment method. This will be gibberish to people who haven't played the game, but for those of you who have: there's now two forms of money, Pieces of Eight (like the subscription game) AND Dubloons. You have to have badges to do certain things - to be a Pirate, you need a Pirate badge, to work in the stores you need a Craft badge, to play Parlor games you need a Parlor badge. In order to get these badges, you have to pay for them with Dubloons. You can either buy them with Pieces of Eight, which is completely free to you, you just have to get enough PoE to buy them (anywhere between 640 - 699 on the Dubloon Market). OR you can buy them from Three Rings! You need fucking Dubloons to do just about ANYTHING in this game, like buy clothes or swords or gear or ANY FUCKING THING. So you can either spend a LONG time jobbing for it... or spend some dough and get what you need a little quicker. I think it's brilliant... there's no reason to pay for it if you don't WANT to, but if you want to bust out a few sheckles every now and then to support a developer that DESERVES your support - it's up to you. I'm going to buy a few Dubloons a month - not nearly as much as a sub would cost (I'm talking like $2.95 in Dubloons) but enough to send a little bit of love to these brilliant mofos.
So we should start a crew and sink a bunch of GAffer ships! I know they play this shit.
-
Gaffers only talk about playing it.
-
Really? I'm fucking hooked, big time. I'm actually waiting for a crew I'm jobbing with to set sail again :P
-
I don't play it because I'm colorblind and they won't let me change the way the puzzle icons look in the Puzzle Fighter ripoff because it might give me an "unfair gameplay advantage." Yeah, if I could tell the yellow and green apart that just wouldn't be fair to the other players. So even though I love the game they will never see a penny from me. Fuck Three Rings and their Doctor Whotastic CEO!
-
Does this game feature big brawny hairy pirates? Or pirate babes?
-
At the very beginning of a round, does this game make one move against you leading to a chain of combos which knock 75% of your health off? Because fuck Puzzle Quest.
-
Puzzle Pirates and I were lovers a few years ago. It was a hot, torrid affair.
I would love for a game to rip off it's concept and make it into a single player game.
-
I think a DS / PSP port with online multiplayer would be the bees knees, personally.
-
hahaha wtf are you thinking. ACTUAL internet multiplayer gaming?!?! on psp?!?! hahahaha omg.
seriously tho, how many games for PSP actually do it :(
-
A lot, it's just that it's the type of games you don't like.
-
you mean bad games?
-
It's certainly no Bullet Witch, rite MAF.
-
Medal of Honor Heroes had a nice online, but no one ever played it. 32 players, and you could download a small program for setting up your own host server on your PC. I thought it was a neat, innovative use of the PSP online features - but like I said, no one ever played, even in the first few days. It's a shame, too, because MOH Heroes isn't a bad game at all. It's short (really short, like 4 hours short), but it has a nice compliment of options for a PSP FPS. Auto-centering worked great. As far as WWII FPS PSP games go, it's the best of the three out there. Brothers in Arms is fucking awful, and COD: Roads to Victory is pretty but disappointing. When it hits the bargain bin I recommend it. You can set up bot deathmatches for quick play, and the bots are pretty good.
Overall, though, I'm over FPS on PSP. Just won't ever work to anyone's complete satisfaction. They should make a good 3rd person COD, BIA, or MOH game instead.

bullet witch rox, moody bollocks
-
I don't know anything about the PSP's online capabilities, I'm just trying to be an unbiased system warrior for the time being.
-
Puzzle Pirates is awesome. It gives me my daily dose of vitamin grind, and then I get to go buy cool new gear for my little pirate. As a member of The Salty Mouthfuls, I'm usually never lacking pieces of eight.
Awesome game, runs on Java, so any computer out there can play it, regardless of OS.
-
Salty Mouthfuls :lol
are you doing the subscription thing or are you doing the dubloon thing? and thanks for gracing us with your presence; had I known I could bring you out of hiding with PP talk, I would've made a thread much earlier!
-
Metal Gear Solid works pretty damn well online, saving for some people with hacked soldiers that spoil the fun.
-
I can't believe I actually jobbed with the Salty Mouthfuls last night. :D
-
I used to be a kickass carpenter/bilger. I hated doing the cannons.
-
I've only done the cannons with the Navy; I haven't tried to use them in the heat of battle, yet (actually, nobody has ever asked me to).
-
It's as free as you care to make it. Don't feel like saving up PoE to get Dubloons? Buy 'em online!
Some people think it's bullshit and that you can pay your way to the top, but I disagree - if you suck at the puzzles, you can't buy anything to make yourself do better. And if they don't agree with that, there's still two subscription-based oceans they can play on.
-
I'm downloading and giving this a try now... don't care for the MMO, pay aspect but we'll see.
-
Wow, they have a kickass office space:
