After watching the "It's oh so Quiet" music video, I really want to get the best Bjork album. That song really reminded me of Fiona Apple who I really like.
Any suggestions?
-
She's never really done anything else like that song, but you can't go wrong with Post or Homogenic.
Debut is pretty fantastic too.
-
Holy shit Human Behavior is like the bes song ever.
-
Check out Hyperballad. That's my favorite. And Joga. And Aurora. And Pagan Poetry. And Hidden Place. And if you want something musicalish, check out Bjork's duet with Thom Yorke on Selmasongs, I've Seen it All. Great song.
-
Post is, hands down, her best album.
-
I like Vespertine best, but I understand why I'm in a minority there. . .but come on Homogenic > Post.
-
Ew, fuck no. Look at the songs on Post! Army of Me, Hyper-ballad, It's Oh So Quiet, Isobel, Possibly Maybe. I rate Debut as better than Homogenic, personally. Or probably equally, but Post is definitely her best album.

OMG BJORK
When I made a Bjork appreciation thread everyone said I was a gay white guy :-\
I LOVE this song; listen to her voice at the beginning it's so cute. I want to have sex with her accent

Hells no. Not to say Post is bad or weak or anything, but for fuck's sake, listen to the two albums and compare them. Homogenic sounds strange, and totally off the hook. The album is the freakiest and most interesting thing she's ever done. The album is adventurous and there's nothing that sounds like it amongst Bjork's catalog. Post is great, but it's more a work in already-established styles, with Bjorkian twists. Homogenic is the sound of Bjork blazing her own trails.

fegs with no taste will always say Vespertine, but we all know it's a tie between Post and Homogenic. I hate Bjork fans.
-
fegs with no taste? Didn't you like the Paris Hilton album?

Tangent, but I think The Game might be my most listened to artist this week, and I don't know what I think about that :( He basically sucks as a rapper, but the production sounds good. Sounds expensive.

TVC is slippin :(
But alas even as a hip hop backpacker I can't deny that Game has some good songs with amazing production...
Produced by Cool and Dre

Produced by Kanye West

Produced by Dr Dre

(Game's verse is still horrible though)

That first Game album is the equivalent of a chick that looks great, but only because she's had tens of thousands of dollars of plastic surgery. I listened to the follow-up once, it still sounds decent (though not as shiny and expensive as the first one) but there are some painfully awful lyrics in it, to the point where I was like, ashamed to have been listening to it.
But I mean, as far as head bouncing rap goes, it's cracklike and it gets the job done.
Heck, even 50 Cent is good on The Documentary. They musta had to work some Jesus magic to make that happen.

Amazing beats can really hide bad lyrics in the background, and losing the beats exposes them; basically look at Snoop's career. Game looks to be heading in that same direction, but he won't have the same iconic relevence or "cool-ness" that Snoop has.
My problem with Game is his sexual obsession with Dr Dre. Dre's not on the new album but that doesn't Game from mentioning him basically every other line. He even has a song on there where he cries over the breakup. Wow. To make matters worse he also is a god damn liar. I rememeber him saying he was an orphan and never met his parents (don't ask why I watch TRL >:(), but in the Hate It or Love It video...poof there's his mom. He talks about his dad teaching him all this stuff as well. Which is it, lovable orphan or lying faker?
Dude knows how to ride good beats though, I'll give him that :bow
-
It's obvious that he worships Dre, but it's not like he restricts his name-dropping to just Dre. He seems to love doing name-checks more than any other rapper I've ever heard. HE kind of reminds me of Denis Dyack, hoping that all the name-dropping will somehow make him as good as the people he's mentioning. Especially on Dreams, which is, again, very expensive and shiny and awesome sounding, it's like a shallow, emotional mining of hip hops big names of the past two decades. There's paying tribute to people you admire, but the degree to which the game takes it is absolutely ridiculous, nearly to the point of self-parody.

Phoenix with that avatar I keep thinking you're that tard Triumph.

Same here.

I actually like that crazy bitches' remixes the best. The DJ Krust remix of "So Broken" is superfresh.

Well I figured since everyone will be making fun of teh Christians this week I might as well get ready for the rapage :(
Anyway, Game has always struck me as a very calculated parody of hip hop history. When he first came out I remember him saying he'd only been rapping for a couple years, and that he "researched" the classic rap albums such as Reasonable Doubt, Doggiestyle, and Straight Outta Compton. When you listen to his flow it sounds very similar to Dr. Dre's, yet he switches it up to mimic others. For instance in the How We Do his verse sounds very similar to 50's (perhaps because 50 wrote the hook), and he would rap similar to Eminem on tracks produced by him.
Even his "beef" with 50 Cent seems contrived, as if he's craving for attention. I don't even think 50 has responded, but Game has released countless diss tracks. His success is based on great production and generating beef to keep his name alive. With the name dropping and constant stlye biting it seems like he's trying to mimic other's essense in order to try to generate similar success...

:piss on Bjork. Shes shit and everyone knows it. Shes only popular because people think that they are supposed to like her music. Everyone is just carrying the banana and being the monkey that she wants them to be.

Blah, I partially agree, but she does have some great songs on each album. And they're usually strange, which is good.

Earth Intruders (new single)

Hm....
-
It could be good. . .I'm just glad it's got a nice chugging pace to it. The rip quality is too lame to get a good feel for how it really sounds.
-
Sounds like Björk has been smoking some ganja with David Byrne. Can't wait for this new albummmmmmmmm
-
How can you hate Bjork, at the very least her songs are pretty damn unique.
She also has the best music video collection ever, thanks to gondry.
-
Just get the greatest hits album. It's got all the good stuff on it more or less.
-
What does Bore think about Volta? I give it a "Good".
