Why read the book when you can watch the live action movie: http://www.neogaf.com/forum (http://www.google.com/)

The great gatsby rocked all sorts of nuts too
-
The best book I was forced to read in school was Ender's Game.
-
Willco if you want to discover a truly horrible book filled with feminist propaganda I suggest The House on Mango Street.
http://www.amazon.com/House-Mango-Street-Sandra-Cisneros/dp/0679734775
Everyone should rent it from the library and we can have a discussion. The only C I've ever gotten on a paper was due to this book, and the fact that my teacher was a feminist UGH.
-
Willco if you want to discover a truly horrible book filled with feminist propaganda I suggest Handmiads Tale.
Fixed.

The best book I was forced to read in school was Ender's Game.
You just like it because it had naked boys wrestling in the shower.
I read Of Mice and Men, that was cool.
-
I guess I'm the only one that read dickens in highschool. :-\

See, I don't even remember that part. I just remember it as a fun sci-fi read. Of course, you think of the nudity!
-

And here we go again

1984 and The Catcher in the Rye are pretty much the only books I read in school that I really enjoyed.
The great gatsby rocked all sorts of nuts too
I hate that book. It sucks.
To Kill A Mockingbird and Dante's Inferno were the definitive school books.

Yeah, Great Gatsby gets a big meh from me. Never read Dante's Inferno, but To Kill A Mockingbird OMG. One of my favorite H.S. books.

:o Your dead to me.
himu you read the inferno in school? that pritty bad ass. I read the first 2 cantos in grade 9 and gave up - I didn't have enough history knowledge to get half the shit he was saying.
Mocking bird is outdated trash.
-
AP classes read Inferno in HS.
-

Meh. His writing was really annoying. The story was interesting, but the way he presented it made reading it tedious.
Another good one, which many people I know hated, was Brave New World.
I still have fond memories reading Princess Bride for school in 7th grade. I love that book.
-
Mocking bird is outdated trash.
No it isn't.
-
Paradise Lost is knocking my socks off right now, though every once in a while I hit a horrible horrible 300 lines or so and just give up reading for a month. I loved the odyssey, iliad, and anied in grade 9.

I don't know anyone that hated Brave New World. Quit making shit up.
And it was only tedious because you have ADD and you're probably autistic. You're making me so mad today himumu >:(
-
I was about to bring up Paradise Lost as well. That's a great read.

I'm not dude. In my class at least, a lot of folks hated it. It was fucking distinguished mentally-challenged.

:o Your dead to me.
No it was absolutely horrible, read like something a 13 year old wrote while jacking off. Did he write any better books?
-
Mocking bird is outdated trash.
No it isn't.
Yes it is. It only has one chacter of any merit, and while the child learning the evils of the world was great for its time, there are lots of books that do it better.
-

how so? I prefer great expectations, but most of his books are all similar in style.

The story is an interesting portrayal of the racist times of early 1900's America. It's an emotional book, and I don't see how it's dated at all.
Canturbury Tales. :) King Arthur stories. :)
I loved English in HS.
Oh, and another good one is 12 Angry Men. The movie is an exact translation from the book. Good shit.
-
favorite HS reading
Fahrenheit 451
Animal Farm
All Quiet on the Western Front
Brave New World sucks, it's total crap. Read 1984, Fahrenheit 451, then BNW. Shit, Catch-22 is more entertaining (despite not fitting in the same category) than BNW. Great Gatsby is better and Great Gatsby is meh.
-
Just read the intro to Canturbury Tales. It was ok, does it get better readint he characters tales?
Another one I liked was They cage the animals at night, but I don't remember what it was about at all besides a kid in an orphanage. I found it really sad though.
EDIT: for BNW I really wish the whole book would have been like the first 3 chaptrers where its just a tour of the facility.
-

if I wanted to watch a bunch of uptight, nationalistic dicks I would watch the news.

Fuck how could I forget Hitchhikers saga.

Oh yeah, Animal Farm was good too. Orwell FTW. I've been meaning to mean Fahrenheit 451. Recently read BNW and enjoyed it, but the writing style was pretty godawful.
-
We didn't read Hitchhiker's in HS. I read the first book. I like it. The wacky writing style is...odd.
-
Willco doesn't like a book intended for someone roughly half his age. Tune in tomorrow to see his shocking opinion on Superfudge.
-
I read a lot of junk in HS that was, well...junk. Honors/AP classes at my school would read over-the-top analytical snorefests while the dumb kids got to read fun books, but they also had to suck on Maya Angelou's dick so I guess it all worked out. From what I remember being required reading, Slaughterhouse 5 and The Secret Sharer were what I enjoyed.
-
:lol
-
TVC is wrong, yet again! Despite my reading level, I still read this on the shitter to this day:

Jane Eyre is far and away the worst thing I read in my academic career. And to top it off, due to truancies, I got stuck doing a fucking book report on Wuthering Heights at the same time. I should have been placed on suicide watch -- those assholes are lucky I'm a pussy.

Worst book I ever read was probably Ethan Frome. I giggled when an Edith Wharton adaptation was mentioned as Vince's next potential movie on Entourage.

What is that school book that was popular back in the day? The setting was an elementary school and they did absolutely ridiculous shit. In one of the chapters the they got a new computer, and the teacher threw it out the window.
Another episode saw the school get destroyed.
They were awesome. Anyone remember the name?

I just posted it!

That's the name? It seemed familiar but I wasn't sure.
Another fave of mine when I was little was this one with a mean ass teacher. I forgot the name.
-
I think we should start an Evilbore Book Club and pick this as our first book:
From what I understand it is like Carrie without the good parts.
-
Christ, TVC.
-
:lol white man.
I'd be all for a REAL book club in a few months or so.

-
This is one of those books in school that I skipped reading all together and watched the movie the night before I was supposed to finish it.
-
Fuck how could I forget Hitchhikers saga.
Yeah, who could forget that steaming pile of shit? Lord of the Flies was okay in Junior High. I can't really remember what I've read in highschool. Of Mice and Men was good. So was To Kill a Mockingbird. I need to start reading again...................
-
AP classes read Inferno in HS.
Mine didn't, we did read To Kill A Mockingbird though. I had already read it twice by then--once in 6th grade and one in 10th--but every time I read it I understood more I guess.
I HATED Lord of the Flies. I think we read it junior year if I'm not mistaken. It was just so unrealistic to me--12-year-old boys just aren't mature enough to create some kind of little organized society like that.
I did like when they burned the island up or whatever, though. Also the whole "KILL THE PIG CUT HER THROAT SPILL HER BLOOD" or whatever bit. There were some good laughs there.
