Just played the game (third strike iteration) again for the first time after a few months, and an honest epiphany came from the bottom of my jaded heart-- why the fuck did I waste so much time bettering Ryu and convincing myself that this overrated turd praised on all gaming forums in the world was that good?
Who are you guys fooling? Yeah, it has deep gameplay and good sprites, but it also has ZERO charms and some of the worst, most unmemorable character designs in the history of EVER. It also moves FUCKING SLOWLY. Rarely ever before has a game being so painful to bear in its attempt to look "edgy", what a travesty. Especially the inane keyboard music that should've been concocted as theme songs for a show like Entertainment Tonight. This isn't Street Fighter, in comparison Street Fighter Alpha 2 has the allure of a beautiful woman.
Seriously, the only reason I keep playing it once in a while is to beat the fuck out of Dudley since he's so bad and fruity-looking that it's hilarious. Compared to other Capcom fighting games with charm, speed and personality and a ton of other 2D fighters this doesn't stand. Should've rotten and died out on the CPS3 boards.

I know youre dying to talk to people but come on.
-
?????? what is that
What's with these kinds of bogus ad hominem stereotypes, I'm only dying to sensibly seek games wrongly overhyped as sacred cows by these gaming forum communities and permanently erase them off their golden status from my previously gullible memory and possibly others' as a service.

Never played it, and don't want to. The fighting game genre wore me out back then, and I don't want to go back to it.
-
I would say the only SF game that beats SF3 is SFA2
Legend:
SF= Street Fighter
SF3 = Street Fighter 3
SFA2= Street Fighter Alpha 2
-
Yes Street Fighter Alpha 2 rules IMO, I always end up going back to it. 8)
-
I have to purchase one of the more recent SFs. The last one I played was SSFII on Genesis (and really the only one I've played).

Get Street Fighter Alpha Anthology then, it includes the whole trilogy. Save for the original which is terribly outdated these games are still extremely fun today.

You can probably pick up a used copy of Street Fighter Anniversary collection for just a couple bucks (includes the aforementioned Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, along with a version of Street Fighter 2).

Street Fighter II was awesome. I was so cheap in that game.
-
SF3 KICKED ASS.
SO DID THE ALPHA SERIES
-
when street fighter 3 was first released it was widely ignored
but then after a few years, it became popular to like it
-
It was widely ignored where?
It didn't get a console release until late, but it was hot shit on the arcade scene
-
SHITBIN
I have never played a bad Street Fighter game.

AFAIK the game never did all that great in arcades and was overshadowed by the likes of Tekken and Capcom's own Vs. series. It started to become THE game among the hardcore players when Japanese tourney matches hit the net, and some of them came over to play in U.S. tournmanets.
-
But the worst is the new roster of characters. They all look so generic and "look at me I'm edgy!!!" that it's really painful. Save for maybe Elena I'd delete all of them. Alex? Gimme a break.
Plus what's with that Greek-looking final boss that looks like a rejected design from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure CPS3 fighter? :lol

don't quit your day job

but that's pretty damn serious, there're so many games hyped as great which really are not... on GAF you can find a "underrated total" thread for just about ANYTHING, out of compassion or whatever... but on a holistic scale this is pretty wrong since those who don't play the games blindly believe what they read and it'll be very hard to erase these memories afterwards
so although it is a subjective affair, on OA and others I like to study and then publically target suspicious sacred cows of gaming in order to find out the real deal about them

I never liked the Alpha series. Blasphemy I know, but I loved Bison and they castrated him in Alpha. Overall I just didn't enjoy the feel of the game.
BTW, I tried Super Sf2 Turbo the other day and Cammy was taking off huge chunks of my life. Was she overpowered in that game? It's been forever since I last played.

I really like SF3 myself, the character design of some of the characters is a bit lame, but the fighting engine is unmatched. High level gameplay videos for sf3 are so entertaining to watch
