first of all the text complaints were greatly exaggerated sure there is a good amount of text, but nothing like you are lead to believe (if you played a Paper Mario before well it's more or less the same amount so far).
game is great, don't go in expecting some platforming goodness because this is not it (wait till Super Mario Galaxy if you want that I guess). SPM is more like an action/adventure game with some rpgs elements here and there. the focus is clearly exploration and puzzles not platforming, the 2d-3d mechanic works really well wonder why it took so long for someone to make a game out of this.
the art style is fantastic, it's typical Paper Mario art but with much more style than in the other Paper Mario games. good music so far, the controls are alright shaking the wiimote IS gimmicky but doesn't really bother me that much (at first it did).
I'm on chapter 1-4 so far so yeah I'm still in the beginning.

In before the countless haters

Let me guess, it feels exactly like every other 2D Mario game except that you can *gasp* play as other characters and *gasp* switch the perspective whenever it's obvious you're supposed to? Sounds amazing

sometimes it's really not that obvious.
Im still in the first chapter so the puzzles are fairly basic so far but still pretty cool.
-
Good...... I like basic puzzles......... The puzzles in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess cracked my fucking brain.
Lol weak.

I really like the Original Mario Bros and Paper Mario 2, but I hated NSMB. Will I like this game?
Cant believe theres no fucking PAL release date for this yet.
-
Im not European but yes were all in the same boat :-\ Its sux

Just beat 1-4 today... game is pretty damn good, even though I miss having a dedicated "run" button (maybe its one of the powerups you get later?). Like Error said, the game is more focused on puzzles than straight-up platforming, requiring you to be observant and try rotating the world in 3D every so often (you can also find some hidden power ups this way). Nothing brain-wracking just yet, but like I said I only cleared the first chapter. Love the graphics style, and all the little subtle graphical effects the game has in it. So far, I dig.. gonna really play a lot this weekend.

Just finished the first world and a half. I am enjoying this game a ton. It looks great, plays solidly. The only minus is that it is extremely easy. The difficulty hasn't ramped up at all.
Still, it's fun, even though it's easy.

I'll still try it out next week.

Don't be frowny. It appears to be a pretty good game. It's definitely fun, some I'm willing to forgive the game's general easiness. Oh, new complaint - no analog for moving in 3d sucks nuts. It's not anything near game-breaking, it's just that moving in 3d with a d-pad feels very not right.
-
It's also super GC-ported. Like, you hold the controller sideways and boy is the Wii functionality tacked on (at least in the first few hours). Even the initial interface is selecting a save file...with the d-pad.

Yes, and since on the GC this game would've had analog control in 3D, the Wii version is another case of an inferior rush job, a la TP.
-
But TP was better on Wii.
-
chapter 3 is made of awesome and win.

But TP was better on Wii.
Maybe if you don't like good camera control. Again, a nitpick, but a noticeable omission, much like analog in SPM.

Camera never bothered me. Now the bow and arrow controls were great–couldn't even do it well in the GC version.

I'm hoping that this gen will see the end of do-it-yourself cameras and more fixed-perspective cameras. If there's one thing that ruins 3D gaming for me, it's shit-tastic cameras or being forced to use both analog sticks at once to move player+camera.
-
I remember the first years of 3d platforming on PS1, the cameras then were a lot worse than games these days

I'm cooling off on the game. I'm 3 worlds in and the difficulty really hasn't picked up. I mean, I have fun when I'm playing, but it's a short burst thing. I have difficulty finding a compelling reason to play when it's so easy.
I'm going to continue to play for another world or 2.
-
Played it all weekend, just beat 7-4... this game is just so clever - the change in settings, unique gameplay styles, puzzles (some of them are pretty challenging)... The game itself (i.e. monster encounters) has gotten a bit more challenging since the beginning, I've only died once so far. The game really has kept me hooked. Gonna probably have it done by next weekend. The whole of 3-4, world 4-4, world 6, the end of 7-2... had me saying HOLY SHIT! This is by far my favorite game of the so called next gen.
-
game is great so far... i'm up to the 4th world. but man, did really people love the text that much? it gets fucking annoying and un-funny after a while. there's just way too much of it. i'm in a similar boat as TVC -- cooling off a bit because the challenge is not there. i'm hoping that it picks up from here on out.
-
I'm really enjoying this game. There is too much text at the start, but after that point I have mostly enjoyed the story tidbits. I just generally like to get right into my games and SPM makes you wait through its exposition.
I like the puzzle and adventure elements, and even the way you do style points with the wiimote. I'm up to 3-4 and just got into what I like to call 'isamu's castle'. Took a break because I was actually at low health and need to find a mushroom or something.
-
I almost bought it the other day. I'll get it eventually
-
This game sucks.
Any game where I have to run in a hamster wheel for five minutes is not considered a good game.
BORINNNNNNNNGGG
-
:lol
you know a game is boring as fuck when you actually fall asleep playing it. SMRPG has some good stuff going for it, but it was definitely a snoozer.
-
Francis and Peach bit is awesome.
