Rumors were around that he wasn't in but it's official now. Based on previous rumors it seems he will be playing the son of Marion Ravenwood(and Indy obviously) who was conviced during Raiders'. From USA Today:
Spielberg said in an e-mailed statement: "Shia has extraordinary range. I think of him as 'the young man for all seasons."
LaBeouf adds, "It's not going to be Short Round, all grown up," a reference to the fast-talking little kid from 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
When he met Lucas recently at Spielberg's offices on the Universal lot, LaBeouf says he brimmed with questions but hit a wall of secrecy, even about the relic Jones will be pursuing.
"Lucas looks at you and says simply, 'I can't tell you that,' " LaBeouf says. "Then when he thinks he is supposed to tell you something but isn't sure, he gets up and leaves the room, goes in to talk with Spielberg and comes back and says, 'Nope. Sorry.' "

Anticipation after this news: -10
Bringing the total up to: Anticipation: -527
-
Sean Connery.
-
Eh, I don't hate the kid.
I'm indifferent towards this news. Sort of how I am indifferent towards the idea of Indy IV
-
Sadly the only thing i'm looking forward to is Sir Sean Connery.
-
Blasphemy. Connery is the only way they get my $8.
-
A fourth Indiana Jones movie is a huge fucking mistake.
Fuck off Spielberg.
Fuck off George Lucas and your shitty prequel Star Wars movies.
People make me SICK.
Calm down kiddo, its just a movie.
-
This is going to be an awful movie.
-
I would be worried is Spielberg wasn't the director. The last time Spielberg has dissapointed me was over ten years ago with The Lost World, and even then that wasn't a "bad" film. Every movie he has released so far this decade has been good stuff.

You must have forgotten AI
And Connery is the only way to my 10 bucks.

This is like the answer to a question nobody asked.

This is like the answer to a question nobody asked.
The movie?
The media has been asking Spielberg if he is doing a 4th Indy since the early 90's in basically every interview he has done.

You mean the liberal media.

Entertainment Weekly, Variety, etc...? ???
-
Exactly, spreading their ungodly filth.
-
I don't have anything against Shia LaBeouf, but I do have something against the whole dad and son adventure dynamic.
-
I hope they work in a "I learned it from watching you, dad" angle

Isn't that basically every spielberg movie ever? He gets off on father & son/family plot points.
-
demi you ignorant slut
:lol The Office is awesome.
-
With the father/son dynamic, they've limited themselves to the following plot devices:
1.) Dad is a deadbeat or Son hates Dad's career, but after an unforunate event where he is forced to team up with his father, they bond and share a loving relationship.
a.) Son gets kidnapped; Dad must rescue him.
b.) Dad gets kidnapped; Son must rescue him.
2.) Son is a clone of Dad, but has no association with him due to him either being recluse or not approving of his son's torch baring.
a.) Son gets kidnapped; Dad must rescue him.
b.) Dad gets kidnapped; Son must rescue him.
-
that was the plot of the third movie!
-
It's also the plot of almost every father/son buddy movie ever.

qft
Shia is not a bad actor; I'd guess that most people in this thread solely know him from iRobit. But the problem is that even now I can already see the inevitable attempts at humor that will be scattered throughout the movie. In terms of plot, Shia will probably be estranged from Indiana, and somehow the adventure will bring them together awwww (where have I seen that before).
It worked with Last Crusade because the father/son dynamic was believable, and happened to feature freaking Sean Connery who's absolutely brilliant throughout that movie.
-
When I see the word LaBeouf I imagine some chick just bending over and farting in a guy's mouth.
LABEOUF

You mean Rear Window: MTV Edition?

No silly, I mean Even Stevens.
