"I was there on the ground when our country was being attacked, and I will be there on the ground to ensure it never happens again."

"It's not about who was where, it's about how they reacted to the situation. We're going in the wrong direction, and Americans recognize this. It's time for a change"

"You speak of change. Didn't you vote for the war?"

"Yes, I did. But my vote was based on poor intelligence, just as this war was"

*audience claps*

"New York is a very strong state. The people there, I think, know how to deal with adversity - in ways very few people know how"

"Mr. Governer, I know a little about New York myself"

*audience laughs*

"I'm sure you do"

"Getting back on topic. The question will start with the senator, and then move to you the governer. While this election is in many ways centered on foreign policy, social issues remain important to many Americans. As president what would your policy be with respect to abortion?"

Abortion is a very emotional subject. As a woman I feel I've been able to connect to many people who feel left out on this issue - women have rights, and their bodies fall under that jurisdiction if you will. Abortion is a sad thing, and in a perfect world there would be none, but this is not a perfect world; with the American people's trust I would hope to making it a better world. Yes, I support abortion"

"Mr. Governer?"

"First off I want to address an issue. Abortion effects everyone, not just women. And I think as a society we have forgotten that a child is equally as much of the father as it is the mother"

*audience claps*

"I support abortion, I have supported a woman's right to choose for some time. I do feel though, that changes need to be made. As president I would submit changes to Roe V Wade, which would start on the state levels and demand that men should have the choice to support children with child support or not. If women are to not be held to their responsibilities in this regard, men should be treated equally so to speak"

"I...I, I feel that's just ridiculous."

I usually laugh at far right wing talking points, but I'm a firm believer than Kucinich would hand this country to the terrorists.

Yeah, well, you also believe in evolution and didn't like Unforgiven.  You've pretty much demonstrated repeatedly that you're not the brightest bulb.

Back on topic, if those are the nominees I won't vote for either of them.  In fact, I won't vote for a candidate that doesn't advocate getting out of Iraq ASAP.

You know something is up when a candidate is TOO liberal for Daily Kos.

Markos sold out.  He's playing the "vote for the candidate who can win!" card.  Look where that got us last time!

Didn't he propose a "peace trust" or something like that? What an un-American idea

Kos also happens to always be wrong about who he/she/it feels is going to win the nomination. Tsk tsk

i like kucinich, even though he'd never win a national election. at least he's clear about where he stands and has obvious principles, although his "peace first, pride second" attitude will never fly with the wholly vicarious masculinity of the nascar-and-football set.
Title: Re: Who Will Win

Markos is annoying but he is no hillary fan. Most on the site acuse him of having a Obama bias. He was a Dean guy last time.

But supporting Kucinich is a joke, not because he hasn't got a hope at getting 5% in the primaries unless everyone else get murdered the day before the primary. It's just that he is far too liberal to the democratic base. Hell, Ralph Nader is too liberal to most democrats.

I don't get why he runs in the democratic primaries. It would be like a KKK member who promises to go to war with France running for the Republican nomination.

cheebs, to get some air and face time for his agenda, of course. don't be a pd-grade duh. if he gets enough support in the primaries, parts of his platform may get adopted. he isn't doing this to win wholesale; he's doing it to make sure even a little of his progressive agenda has a chance to make the platform.

"Peace first" is a stupid platform; there's no need to even take a swipe at the masculine duders out there. Kucinich represents nearly every bad liberal stereotype possible. A weak non-charasmatic figure who can't protect anyone.  He's almost more pathetic than Ralph Nader, and that's saying a lot.

really? how do you know he can't protect anyone? your boys in republican country have sold out to both types of terrorists -- the ones abroad and at home -- so i dunno how it could get any worse, regardless.

Hell I'd rather have McCain than Kucinich.

Hopefully which ever Dem who wins the nomination will choose a VP with some foreign policy experience. I'm a Wesly Clark guy through and through.

I am a weird contradictoary "liberal". I am pro-choice, global warming lol, etc...all those talking points but when my mom suggests I join the college democrats I say "I hate liberals my age. They are a bunch of
"impeach bush!" stupid hippies." And I got pissed off when I heard some author at borders on the weekend say to some group that Cheney is a "war criminal".

You sound exactly like me. I can agree with those people on everything else, but when I sense that "all Republicans are evil" tilt I tend to shut down and attempt to distance myself however possible.

Signing a useless petition by college democrats ain't quite the same thing. I don't feel any need to be "civil disobedient" right now anyway. Bush is a fuck-up of the highest degree but the executive branch is generally is moving along well within their limits, even if I disagree with it.

Fixed.

Basically, if you sit around and don't say anything, don't complain with the results.  If you don't write your Congressman, Senator or President and don't let them know that their actions are not acceptable, then you should just smile and eat your poop sandwich.

Lets not forget the Democrats' hilariously bad antics recently with the military mismanagement.

But what I find MOST disgusting is that now many on the right are complaining about mismanagement and solely blaming the Democrats lol. Where were these fuckers when troops were being redeployed and kept in action months after their tours ended?

I like my congressman! And my two senators are damn good ones.

Also PD, once Carl Levin retires, everyone expects this gal to be the next senator from Michigan. She wants it badly She much rather be i DC and is basically now just waiting for Carl Levin to step aside.

Well my last statement was kinda hyperbolic: I'm not a big fan of her business politics.

But yeah, she'll be a great senator imo. I'd rather have her voting on business policy than making it I guess
