The dormitory was locked down immediately after the shooting, Steger said, and a phone bank was activated to alert the resident advisers there so they could go door-to-door warning the 900 students in the dorm. Security guards surrounded the dorm, he said, and others began a sweep across campus.
Asked why he didn’t order a lockdown of the entire campus, Steger noted that thousands of nonresident students were arriving for 8 a.m. classes, fanning out across the sprawling campus from their parking spots.
“Where do you lock them down?” Steger asked.

This was preventable, thank god he shot himself though. No trial thank god.

I understand the argument tho. Locking down a huge campus when that many people are coming in is kinda difficult. Of course you think Tuition bucks would find like, a small tank force or something awesome like that.

Locking down a campus that size is difficult, maybe impossible, but that doesn't really vindicate them for not trying to do anything until just before the second round of shootings happened. Them cops is gonna be hung and that administration is gonna be sued to the moooooon.

I said I understand the argument, I didnt say I agreed with it. More could have been done. In hindsight more can ALWAYS be done.

I'm just imagining the president of this place going to his computer, opening up Outlook Express, typing into the to field "EVERYBODY," and then typing in, "OMFG guys! Stay away from the windows and shit. Lock yer dooooors!"
Then an hour goes buy while the message is delivered to everyone's mail box. The president paces in his office and screams, "OMG!"

The local radio station interviewed the University of Washington sheriff or whatever, which is a much larger school and put the idea of a lockdown into perspective, but the shooting event (simple homicide) was so different the whole interview made no sense whatsoever.

Not being able to lock down the school because of commuter students sounds like a cop out. They could of still locked down the campus and posted 'ALL CLASSES CANCELLED' notes on the building doors so that commuters would see it and turn around.
I was a commuter and had numerous classes cancelled hours and even minutes before attending. I always knew by finding posted notes on doors and buildings. I just went back home.
After a double murder ON campus and no suspect caught, they still allowed students to attend classes? Who cares whether it was considered isolated or not, the fact that a deranged person killed two students and was still roaming the near area should be enough to cancel classes for that day at least. Heck, my school closed and cancelled all classes after one shooting (no deaths) in front of the student center one time.
Justified or not, I'm sure the school and the P.D will be raked over the coals for their decisions that day.
