Title: Nikon D40 how is it?

If I get this job, I'm looking at buying either a D40 or a Canon 350D

Blue: what have you heard regarding the d40?

The D40 is supposed to be (If I remember correctly) the same level as the 300D. Its one of the lower tier DSLR cameras but is very good for new DSLR users. Solid Camera all around. A good site to check out is http://www.dpreview.com . Compare and contrast the D40 and the 300D if you want. Theres also a newer model (50D) but that comes at a $300-$400 premium.
