I actually have to buy the theatrical cut now too haha. Apparently there was a schizm between the first director and mel, mel kicked him off near the end and rewrote a shitload of it. Not sure which version I like better. I think the theatrical cut was a bit more "fun" but I kinda liked the straight up version for some reason lol.
So if you already own payback and like it a lot, get this new version. Completely different film.

I want it but Im poor :(
make a copy and send me it?
-
COMCAST IS WATCHING.
AND FOR THE DIGITAL RECORD: NO I WILL NOT MAKE ILLEGAL COPIES OF MOVIES FOR ANOTHER PERSON!
-
I would if you asked me.
*shifty eyes*

Screw Payback, watch Point Blank (directed by John Boorman, starring Lee Marvin). It's based off the same novel. Much better film.
-
You dont say SCREW PAYBACK U SAY IF YOU LIKE PAYBACK CHECK THIS MOVIE OUT!
TARD! ;)
-
Never saw it.
-
See the theatrical cut first, the directors cut cant be appreciated otherwise.
-

This movie comes on all the time (TNT) but I've never seen it :-\
-
how can point blank and pay back be based off the same novel - their totally different?
-
Its probably how Payback and Payback:Straight Up are almost two different movies lol
-
Payback is pretty weird/good

And yet they are, swear to God. I haven't seen "Straight Up", but the original theatrical release of Payback changed tons of stuff and made it oh-so-crappier.
Point Blank FOR THE WIN.
-
Theatrical Release of Payback was done to appease the general audience, it was Gibson's deal. Its not a bad movie in that form but the Dir cut is much grittier and the tone of the film is completely different.
-
Does the Straight Up cut feature the inimitable Lucy Liu as the dragon lady assassin?
-
what is the books name? I want to to read it now.
-
The Hunter, by Richard Stark.
-
Ichirou: kinda, the biggest difference involves the entire last act of the movie, and as a result a lot of how the stuff in the middle plays out is different. The movie also a bit darker and less ...'goofy'.
I mean dont get me wrong I LIKED the theatrical cut, but the directors cut just seems to have more punch.
