It was like some futuristic flying game that used the voice talents of Dana Scully from the X-Files. I just remember playing a ton of it on my father's PC, because it was like - "WOW! NEAT-O 3D GRAPHIX!" The level design was pretty awful. It mostly involved flying around trying to destroy various targets, but it was not easy.
-
lol I remember that :lol
Now I'm going to be upset all day because I can't remember the name
-
It is called Hover you distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.
It also runs on every version of Windows since 95, and MS still makes it available:
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/deskapps/games/public/AAS/Hover.exe
Don't say I never did anything for you.
-
Chip's Challenge is better.

Chip's Challenge is better.
It is hideous though. And it has no animation. Still has some good levels.
-
wait Furry 3 came with my win 95.

wait Furry 3 came with my win 95.
If it did it was part of a software bonus pack of some sort. Hover is actually on the Win95 disc.
Fury3 was published by MS, though. And there is a demo available. No idea if it runs on later versions on Windows.

Oh wait, it looks like the game Willco is remembering is Hellbender, the sequel to Fury3. It has Gillian Anderson. Again, it was published by MS so a demo is available:

Found it! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellbender_%28computer_game%29) The game was called Hellbender and it was awesome... at the time.
Created specifically for Windows 95, Hellbender emerged as one of the first popularized 3D space-simulator games for the PC, next to Descent. While initially based on the game engine that runs Terminal Velocity, Hellbender emerged as a game that was able to render both indoor and outdoor environments simultaneously.
The ship's computer is voiced by actress Gillian Anderson, best known as Agent Dana Scully from The X-Files.
Look at these hot graphics!

Let's see the Wii try to match visuals like that!

All I remember is I went around destroying this crap:

I just tried the demo and it works on Vista, so I'd expect it works on everything else.
You want a nostalgia boner, Willco?

Installation failed on XP

Installation failed on XP
It failed for me too, until I set the installer to run in compat mode. Shoulda mentioned that.
-
wow this game is awful
glad i was a unixfag back in 95
-
How do I do this?!
-
wow this game is awful
But it has the voice talents of Gillian Anderson! From the X-Files!
Back in 1995, this was like getting Marlon Brando to do Superman.
-
How do I do this?!
Right-click the file > properties > compatibility tab > check the run this prog in compat mode box > set it for Windows 95 or 98. The game was released for 95 but when I tried that compat mode I got errors about the installer recording too much hard drive space, so I bumped it up to 98.
And yes, the game makes my loins yearn for Orin's pink asshole and Descent.

Wow, playing this is like a flashback to a time when PC games sucked.

Wow, playing this is like a flashback to a time when PC games sucked.
Fuck that. Quake came out less than a month before that game. PC games never sucked. Until the Xbox came and killed the market.
-
I'm sorry, Doom and Quake were neat, but that's like all the PC had. I much more prefer the late 90s, where PC games had more variety and were polished.
Wow, Hellbender is awful. I could never play this game right. I thought maybe it was because I was a kid, but it's clear to me that the level design sucked - back to the pits from whence you came!
-
Diablo also came out that same year. And Daggerfall. And C&C Red Alert. And Civ2. And HoMM2 (THE BEST IN THE SERIES!!!).
-

Diablo and Civilization 2 were cool. It doesn't surprise me that gaming STARTED to get good after DirectX

You have just disrepected all the great Lucas Arts adventure titles and the greatest computer game ever made: TIE FIGHTER.
-
Chip's Challenge is better.
Hell yes
-
chips challenge was the shit :bow
its a pretty badass game. I had a friend that made a flash animation promoting the upcoming 'Chips Challenge 3d' "No more boring graphics!" was the slogan
-
My family's first computer that we got in 95 came with a whole bunch of games. The ones that I remember are Descent, Cyberia, one of the Ultima games and Kyrandia.
I'll find out what the others were later. I still have them somewhere in my room.

All crap. WarCraft 2 didn't need an expansion.
And I'm sorry, all the LucasArts adventure games were overrated crap. TIE Fighter was pretty cool, tho.

-
dude! disrespecting TIE Fighter is PD-on-Unforgiven level inexcusable. And Syndicate Wars was awesome.
-
say what you will about mid-to-late-90s PC gaming but RESPECT THE EARLY-90S LUCASARTS, BITCH
-
OMG Evilbore is going to get out the torches and pitchforks! Shut down the forum and let everyone cool down!
Willco is a good person who just said a bad thing.

I just said TIE Fighter was pretty cool like two posts above you!
LucasArts crappy Monkey Island adventures don't excite me. The only one I liked was Grim Fandango and that was late 90s.

Full Throttle and The Dig say hi
