Title: I'm getting Verizon FiOS for free, bitches!

For some reason, Verizon is going through our neighborhood and upgrading all their customers phone and internet to FiOS. Starting next weekend, I'll have the fastest internet that you can get! :elephant :elephant :elephant

On average 15Mb Down/ 2Mb Up (for $50)

I think the lowest tier speed is around 10Mb Down/ 2Mb UP (for $30 or $40?) which still blasts most ISPs a-holes apart. The main advantage are those upload speeds :drool

After some research, it seems like installing to an Apartment could have its issues (mainly with the owner). I think they have to actually drill holes and install wiring to your apartments main PC. They also have to place the Battery pack somewhere within the apartment (the batter is for the phone line..I think internet too. If the power goes out...you'll have your phone line up for 8 hours).

Basically, you need the apartment owners permission. Also, a basic installation is supposed to take upwards of 4 hours.

We still have to pay a monthly fee for phone and internet. Together they were $70. They said it's being dropped to $65. *shrugs*

The installation is free. We have to pay a one time $19.99 activation fee, but they're giving us a $50 Target gift card to make up for it. :lol

Oh, definitely.  Downloading certain files (torrents especially) can be slow at times, but I can also get several gigs within 30 minutes to an hour sometimes too.  The only real problem I've encountered has been with the little PC gaming I've done.  I found Guild Wars to be absolutely unplayable.

I have the shittiest possible Verizon DSL. I just know it downgraded a while back...or something. I'm not paying, so I really can't complain.

But yea, my dad is cheap. I had 56k longer than pretty much all of my friends.
