I've heard many worrisome things about this movie. Evern the blocksbuster clerk warned me, and he normally has a good sense of film.
At the least, it will be neat to look at.

Oh god wtf
1. Gilliam comes on before the movie starts and says "I realize a lot of people will hate this movie" and then continues on to say it's a film about innocence. His final bit is "I am 64 years old and I think I finally found my inner child, and my inner child is a little girl. Thank you, thank you, thankk you, thank you."
2. Then one of the most boring movies I've watched to end starts and continues ot bore you on end.
3. Then the whole thing takes a perverse sexual shift and gets really fucking weird.
4. Then it has a good ending that makes you wish that rest of the movie was that good.

Tideland was a great Horror/Fantasy movie. It will seriously alienate most of the audience with it's handling of child predator and abuse taboos. At first it comes off as horrific but in later viewings you can really appreciate the child's fantasy world she builds all around herself. Almost as if it was 2 movies in one. It was definitely one of Gilliam's strangest movies yet.
-
The problem is that a horror/fantasy shouldn't be so damn boring.

There are so many fucked up and strange things that happen in the movie that I don't think boring could describe it. I was clutching my armrest and wanting to switch the movie off when the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow was straddling the 9 year old on the bed. That's true horror.

Whoa he comes out and admits people hate it? Damn

The story is made to be hated. The film itself is beautifully shot and the acting from the little girl is out of this world. It's the themes in the movie will make most "decent" people sick. It's Alice in Wonderland meets Psycho.
