Title: Movie rental suggestion
Post by: Smooth Groove on April 25, 2007, 10:59:12 PM
I haven't rented a movie in 2 months.  What should I get?  I already bought HDDVD or Bluray versions of Prestige, Descent, Casino Royale, Departed so please suggest something else.  Please keep in mind that I hate artsy-fartsy movies.  No restrained emotional acting for me.

Is Deja Vu or Night at the Museum any good?  I noticed them on the new releases list.

I was going to buy the HD version of Children of Men but you guys kept killing it so now I'm going to rent it instead.  What genres are Rear Window, The Ghost and Mr Chicken  and Dan Knotts?  I'll give Night at the Museum a try tonight.  I hope TVC isn't pulling my leg.  So is Deja Vu any good?

PD, I already mentioned that I have Prestige.  It was kinda disappointing although both actors were great.  I forgot to mention that I've watched Blood Diamond.  BD was a great movie that almost made my eyes watery.

The Prestige
:duh
Also I recommend that you DO get into artsy-fartsy stuff.  Otherwise you will do something stupid like rent Night at the Musuem on a whim and end up wasting time you could have otherwise spent eating paint chips.
spoiler (click to show/hide)
sorry bout the invective, but I can't fathom why anybody who's halfway discerning would be curious about seeing that.

I repeat, avoid Night at the Musuem

Take a chance with an "artsy-fartsy movie."

Rent Volver. It's a great film.

It's on Blu Ray. It's gorgeous.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is a comedy, starring Don Knotts.  It is hilariously awesome.

Rear Window is a supense movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart and the super beautiful Grace Kelly.

You don't like Unforfgiven or Blade Runner.  Please refrain from shitting up this thread.  You will just recommend as shitty black person movie like Forrest Gump, To Kill a Mockingbird, or Idlewild or something.

No Night at the Museum at the store unfortunately.  I was going to give it a try since the icons recommended it. I hope Deja Vu doesn't suck.   PD, your tastes in mainstream movies seem to be debatable.  However, you are the resident expert on IR films.  You recommend anything from the IR genre?

What baffles me about Night at the Museum is how it was written by two of the lead guys behind The State and Reno 911! You'd think they would've turned out a better script...

I watched Deja Vu last night and it was kinda disappointing.  The beginning was pretty good but then the story got way too far fetched.  Some of the characters' actions at the end were also very illogical.  I hope that Night at the Museum fares better.

IR genre?

Interracial.  Black and white bonding.  PD is an expert on those films.
