Here are the Top 10 most gratifying jobs and the percentage of subjects who said they were very satisfied with the job:
* Clergy—87 percent percent
* Firefighters—80 percent percent
* Physical therapists—78 percent percent
* Authors—74 percent
* Special education teachers—70 percent
* Teachers—69 percent
* Education administrators—68 percent
* Painters and sculptors—67 percent
* Psychologists—67 percent
* Security and financial services salespersons—65 percent
* Operating engineers—64 percent
* Office supervisors—61 percent
Of course, these professions attract people who would be satisfied working in these professions. Joining one of these professions won't automatically give you satisfaction unless you enjoy the type of work to begin with. I'd rather kill myself than join the clergy.
Here are the 10 least gratifying jobs, where few participants reported being very satisfied:
* Laborers, except construction—21 percent
* Apparel clothing salespersons—24 percent
* Handpackers and packagers—24 percent
* Food preparers—24 percent
* Roofers—25 percent
* Cashiers—25 percent
* Furniture and home-furnishing salespersons—25 percent
* Bartenders—26 percent
* Freight, stock and material handlers—26 percent
* Waiters and servers—27 percent
Shocked that bartending is so low.

In conclusion: Get a degree.

speaking of which hows the job hunt going malek?

The hunt isn't going to well. I have nothing to shoot and I have no ammo anyhow.
-
Police Officers?
:(
-
OFFICE SUPERVISOR! SUCCESS!
But I guess I'm part of the 39 percent that's not satisfied with the job. gay.
-
Well, looks like the bottom half is filled with food service and retail.
No surprises here.

If this is not sarcasm, dealing with drunk people in a hectic environment really isn't fun.
Also this:
Security and financial services salespersons—65 percent
I guess all those sales bonuses do really make up for losing your soul!

Nice to see my profession up there as one of the most satisfying jobs! Being a school psychologist (work in the public school setting, but aligned with special education) is awesome.

I knew we had a psychologist here but I couldn't remember who it was.

How is the pay for that profession?
I'm on the same pay scale as teachers, so don't expect to make a ton of money. I'll make $42,000 for the 2006-2007 school year. I'm as far over on the scale as you can get (Masters degree +90 credit hours), but my pay will increase after every year of service. At the moment, I'll max out around $65,000 or so, but that will change over time. You shouldn't go into this profession with the dreams of being rich, but you should if you love working with kids.
My wife makes the big bucks, though.

MAX out at 65k...what what what?

It's a public education job, don't expect to make a lot of money. :D I went into this profession to make a difference, not get rich.
At the moment, the max salary is about $65,000 (remember, you only work 10 months a year), with incredible benefits. I'm guessing that will go up over time due to changes in the economy and with COLA's, though.
-
ok though, but you're smart distant, and you know you can still make a difference and make money. I remember our high school Psycholgy teacher LOVED her job, and went to school at night for her masters.

I wanna join the Peace Corps

I'm quite content with my job and my wage. I have a Master's Degree already, actually. I have to have it to be a school psychologist. Oh, I'm not a teacher, by the way.
And besides, my wife makes $100,000/year. We're doing just fine and neither of us have a problem with me only making $42,000/year.
-
a Masters? :bow
-
I love my job, fuk the list

what do you do?
-
In other words, do something you like to do.
-
People who scored high on the happiness scale had the following jobs:
* Clergy
* Firefighters
* Transportation ticket and reservation agents
* Housekeepers and butlers
* Hardware/building supplies salespersons
* Architects
* Mechanics and repairers
* Special education teachers
* Actors and directors
* Science technicians
This raises so many questions for me.

My cousin was a butler Mandark. 80k and more time off than you could ever imagine. Plus he would generally do 6 hours a day.
holy shit
-
Medical students are always told that they are training for one of the most rewarding professions. I guess it's a lie. Why am I going through the torture of 4 yrs of medical school + 3-5 yrs of residency? :'(

That was horrible, you should have said "Yes indeed I do cool your fires and the work is great!" then fallow it up by a " :-*".
