Title: Poker tips
Post by: Himu on May 01, 2007, 05:22:44 PM
I'm going to a poker game tonight after class. Any one got any tips?  :-\

I've got base knowledge on the game. I just don't want anything like this to happen.

Are you playing Texas Hold Em?  Just know what hands beat what.  You can figure out which hands will beat yours, what the likelihood of that is, and bet accordingly.  Don't drink or smoke too much dope, either.  Helps to have your wits about you.

Don't fucking chase the straight, dude. Just don't do it.

Also, don't think you're all bad ass if you get dealt bullets (aces). That's like the most beaten hand, ever.

play a game that's less about random BS.

Hold Em sucks so much, Draw and Stud FTW.

Why is Hold 'Em "random BS"? it's all about odds. know your hands, Himuro!

hey, calling me Himuro, well that's just mean.

I know the hands, I don't like Hold Em because of its ridiculous fanbase/terminology and stupid rules.

I was talking to Himuro! I didn't segue clearly enough, my bad.

I LOVE it for that very reason! Nothing like going to the Indian Casino and taking a bunch of frat-types that think they're fucking Gus Hansen because they watch Poker on TV for all their fuck monies.

royal flush - ace, king, queen, jack, 10,
straight flush - has to be in the same suit, the cards must go in order. Like from 8, 7, 6, 5, 4
flush - 5 cards in the same suit
full house - Same 3 cards of one kind, plus 2 cards that are the same of one kind. Like 3, 3, 3, 2, 2

I know I'm missing some. Straight, sometimes I get it's rules mixed up but it seems to be mixed cards of different suits in order.

You're not gonna get a Royal Flush. Go buy one of those LCD Poker games and practice.

If you don't know the game well then just don't bluff.  Only go for it when you have a chance but don't be too eager either.  Just try to stay the same the whole time so that no one can read you.

If he wants to know what the hands are, it's close enough.

I don't watch poker but many people tell me that Phil Ivey is the best player and he is black.  Imagine how surprised I was to know that a black man was the best at a game that requires thinking.   :D

You can call me a racist?  I'm just kidding though.  The best way to destroy a negative stereotype is to show others how ridiculous it is.

I wish I had the patience and attention span to be a decent poker player. I was alright like 2-3 years ago when I used to play fairly regularly with high school and freshmen college friends, but I play like a complete moron nowadays.

My problem is that I'll get bored after sitting at the table for hours and start playing like a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow.  I got super lucky this weekend and walked out with $60, though.  I'm really a pretty good player for the first 3 or 4 hours though.

There's all kinds of poker shit on espn, espn2 and fox sports.  Just check your listings and shit.

Celebrity Poker was actually good for beginners/people that didn't know too much, though.  Phil would explain shit pretty well.

Yeah Phil was good but he left and they brought in Phil Hellmuth. And good 'ol Hellmuth SUCKS ASS.

Not only that, but the level of stars were getting into the D-list pretty fierce, and Dave Foley wasn't even trying to hide how drunk he was. It was a mess.
