Is he?
"Eternal Sonata looks like an Xbox1 game"
....wtf?
-
I think we all are aware he has a sony bias. I believe he want to work for them as some sort of lifelong dream and he thinks his job at 1up will get him noticed. Much like luke smith now works at bungie, shane wants a job for sony. "Gaming journalism" is a joke sometimes.
-
I've been on the phone with a 1up dude when shane was walking by. It is not a joke he's like that all the fucking time. Just hearing him talk to someone in the cubical next to the person I was on the phone with made me want to kill him.
He's 30 some odd years old and is dillusional as hell. I say this out of respect to 1up, they need to let him go. Now that Luke (the logical one) is gone Shane needs to be shown the door. But sadly Shane has been around for a "while" and keeps surviving. My theory is he's got all the contacts for sony which makes him very valuable to 1up and Ziiff.
Also Eternal Sonata looks fucking gorgeous.

Gaming Journalism is a joke. Movie Critics, or at least the higher ups, actually study film, maybe take film classes, learn the trade and art so as to study it's elements and interpret it. Game journalism is paid fanboyism and the fact the journalists actually look down forumites is such a joke, as there is really no difference between the two.
But I don't mind Shane so much. Yeah, he's Sony's bitch but he does play games to enjoy them, which the rest of the 1up staff seems to lack. And for being a sony guy, Shane doesn't sound like his first system was a Playstation and has some sense of the longer traidition of gaming.

:bow :bow :bow

Shane... >_>
-
EGM is so Wii/Sony centric -- Almost every issue has been pure bullshit coverage-wise.
-
I'm gonna buy Eternal Sonata.

Hm. Well, vague generalizations all around. There are plenty of game journalists with real world experience in either criticism or strict newspaper reporting, just as there are plenty of film critics at major publications who just got their job as a thank you for time served.
Shane is actually a pretty smart guy. I don't always agree with his opinions, but I know that when he wrote for me, his reviews were always well thought-out and engaging.
-
The ones that CAN write all write for PC game magazines. I was a big part of Gaming-Age for a while and took notice of how console mag writers are brought on-board and it has VERY little to do with actual writing credentials.

Wrote for you?
Well, yeah. The magazine I worked for. He did some really good reviews.

OPM?
I like Shane. That's why his recent antics for the past year have been quite disappointing. Still, I enjoy his reviews more than most in EGM. He, along with Mark McD, and a few others were the reason I loved EGM back then. They did good features and reviews. The guy obsessed with Pokemon, who went on to write for fucking Newtype (ugh...) was pretty good too.

SHANE IS THAT YOU?!?!?!?!?!?!
what a daft, go back to where you came from you bellend
-
He's way too obsessed with comparing games.
I mean, the segment was about lack of JRPG on 360 and he downplayed a good one but was excited for Genji.
I never really liked his opinions because he seems to give more of a shit about the company making the games than the games themselves but I don't read his reviews so maybe he's different on the 1UP show.

Another thing about Shane. He's smart enough to stay above the muck. I admire him for that.

360 has more jrpgs than wii or ps3.
-

it was about how proportionally, compared to 360's many other gametypes, ps3 would be having more JRPG's. I think PS3 has more announced JRPG's though.
-
Announced games are strange, you can't play them at all. Wtf.
-
So would it be strange to imagine playing them?
-
I think PS3 has more announced JRPG's though.
No it doesn't. Most of the games from ps3's lists that people keep posting around came from E3 05. THings have changed since 05.
-
didn't know that (thought there was update on the progress of those announced games), shane probably did, hence why he's so annoying.
-
Yeah they have all of these niche rpgs on there and shit. That's not going to go on ps3. Get a grip folks! The user base isn't big enough to support such cult stuff. Most of the stuff hasn't even been announced and it's pure speculation.
-
the wii has a better chance of getting niche rpgs than the ps3, at this time
-
Also Eternal Sonata looks fucking gorgeous.
It does look gorgeous, but a lot of the battle shots have been seriously underwhelming.
Still, I hope that PS3 rumor is true.
-

Exactly, and we have yet to see em be announced, which is odd.
Waiting for my goddamn Megaten and Suikoden next gen announcement.
-
that's true, it'll probably just try to be a port-box between the different types of games on wii and 360. It can do each to an extent WAY overpriced while wii looks like it'll be WAY too rare and 360 looks like it'll be WAY too american, this generation will suck if you like JRPG's and HD graphics.
eternal sonata looks a lot better in motion. Same thing with that PS3 cel-shaded RPG, White Knight.
I think I heard that Atlus purposely makes too little Megaten games so that they become collector's items so it could be on PS3.
-
White Knight is cel shaded?
Naw, they've made one-two megaten's a year since like 2003.
-
White Knight is cel shaded?
Everything I've seen of White Knight would suggest otherwise.
-
I mean that they make too little copies of megaten.

it looked cel-shaded but I meant that eternal sonata looks good because of the animation detail and such.
