Title: Planet Terror was so fucking stupid.
Post by: FlameOfCallandor on May 06, 2007, 10:58:29 AM
Jesus the movie was distinguished mentally-challenged. Luckily Death proof was good. I loved the way it ended. Both movies could have been cut by 20 minutes though.

I disagree. PT was not as good as DP aka movie of the year, but still solid and better than most recent movies. It COULD use a trim but I dont see how DP could use one. In fact I look forward to the full length version which will probably bring it from 9.0 to 9.5.  Btw I thought your gf got tickets for opening night and youre just now seeing it? Liar total.

Her aunt only got three.

How can you say DP didnt need to be trimmed. Stuntman Mike was barely in the fucking movie. I would make the first half only about 20 mintues long and then maybe MAYBE increase the second half a little.

I'll go with the majority and Say Death Proof was too short and am very glad the dvd will be extending death proof.

I wont buy the extended planet terror however.

All Tarantino movies after Jackie Brown suck.  Tarantino doesn't work well by himself, he needs a Roger Avary-type to help him out, really.

Kill Bill - good
Death Proof - GREAT. The extended cut is going to destroy me.

Planet Terrror - good. Not as good as Death Proof, but still good. "Fucking stupid?" far from it. I mean, I guess I can see how you couldn't like it, but it's hard for me to find this intentionally over-the-top zombie film bad. It was a tad too long (and the extended cut probably won't help it) but other than that, it was popcorn fun at its best.

The best thing about both movies is that they positioned the missing reel at the very best place in both films. In the first film it was a humor cut (love scene) MISSING REEL (LOL THE FUCKING PLACE IS ON FIRE) and in the second film it trimmed the dialogue sequence to just the right amount of great.

The missing reel joke was the same for each film. Hardly funny. In fact i remember predicting it the second time around.

Planet Terror missed the whole fucking point of grindhouse films. Helicopter at the end? Please. The whole movie should have taken place at the military base. Then it could have been like Aliens but zombies.

I like how Ichirou says this when the only Tarantino movie to come after Jackie Brown was Kill Bill, and he hasn't seen Death Proof yet.

Plus, Avery sucks. It's obvious who the person who held those movies together when they worked on them with one another, and it wasn't Avery. Avery is a hack.

And lol @ FOC saying Death Proof needs to be trimmed when because certain characters appear for small amounts of time. DP isn't about Mike at all. Plus, it's an 80 minute edit of a (supposedly) 160 minute film. No wonder it's lacking scenes with Mike!

Maybe sucks was a strong word.  I just like Volume 2 better.

Baby, this doesn't mean we're breaking up.  If you like Volume 1 better, and I like Volume 2 better, that just means we fit together better.  Like a puzzle piece.  You are the Yin to my Yang.  Do you see??

Zuh?

Reverse those.  Then remove the word "sucks" and replace with "was not quite as good as Volume 1, but still awesome."

I like both Kill Bill's. Visually and the general style of the films run cool with me (mostly the case for all Tarantino films)

But it's true. I mean, compared to a bunch of recent action films, Kill Bill felt like a breath of fresh air goddammit and to say it sucks is ridiculous! I mean...the KNIFE FIGHT, the pussy wagon, Gogo! "My name is Buck, and I'm here to fuck!" How can you say that sucks?!  :'(

DID YOU NOT EVEN READ MY SECOND STATEMENT!?

I like it, just nowhere near as much as I like 2.  Volume 1 was incredible until I saw Volume 2.  Seriously.  Now I can watch Volume 1 like maybe once a year and mostly for the initial knife fight which is awe inspiring and makes me jack off with no hands.

Stop jacking off to the little girl.

I kinda like em both equally for different reasons. KB1 for the aforementioned reasons plus more that go without mention; KB2 for Pai Mei, the burial, the fight in the trailer, and the opening scene in the church.

I think they're both well rounded, but have completely different styles. It's impossible for me to watch KB without watching KB1 + 2 back to back.

Grindhouse is just a term for the kind of place that would run movies to death until the films would pretty much vaporise. They would grind down the movies reels until they were unusable.

They used to play ultra cheap, disposable movies that feature ultra violence and gore, sexual content  and crappy production values because that's pretty much what those theaters could afford as opposed to to the more fortunate theaters would afford better deals and play big productions instead.

The fucking intro is 5 minutes of Rose stripping, Planet Terror has tons of story holes, deus ex machinas plot points, over the top violence (the massive blood explosions every time someone was shot (which is a massive reference to the ultra violence of movies like Shogun Assassins/Lone Wolf and Cub) , massive sexually charged material (the underage twins, the stripper girl, the long shots of Fergie's close-up back and cleavages, and so on).

Death Proof had a lots of good things going on for it, but there was some real pacing problems. It still had a lot of sex appeal (the way Jungle Julia danced, etc). DP was more of a lazy effort tho, which is why lots of people don't like it.

Why don't you just go watch tripe like 300 and Will Ferrel movies instead. it's certainly more into your range of things, FOC

WHY?! Is it because of the funk/disco in some scenes?
Title: Re: Planet Terror was so fucking stupid.
Post by: Ichirou on May 06, 2007, 10:30:37 PM
No, the funk stuff was okay.  I didn't really have any problems with the soundtrack, except for the fact that whenever a piece of spaghetti Western music came on, I recognized where it was from and it took me away from the movie.

The dialogue was terrible, the pacing was off, none of the characters were sympathetic, the endless thefts/homages made it more of a guessing game of "who is Tarantino ripping off now" than an enjoyable movie.

What's funny is that you can tell that each and everyone of his movies always tried to convoy that whole grindhouse era feel; you could tell that he always tried sneak in as many elements that reminded us of those movies.

Now with Ghrindhouse, he pretty much blew his load when it comes to that. I mean EACH AND EVERYONE of his movies referenced to movies of this era.

Where can he go now?

Dude, there was no low production value about Planet Terror. Rob Rod totally missed the fucking point.

I fail to see how homaging shit with even more shit is supposed to make it a good movie. If you take a dump and then I take a dump can I call it an homage to make is smell better?

Truth.

I guess I can understant FoC's hatred of Planet Terror for the fact that it wasn't a grindhouse film as much as it was a parody of one, but still, that's a shitty reason to hate a film
