Ever since the banks or congress or Bush or the devil passed that "Check 21" deal where it makes it impossible for blue-collar workers trying to get over for a day or two to "float" checks, I barely have any reason to write a check nowadays.
Not that I ever did that... :angel
Now that internet banking is so prolific, there's really not any reason to write checks. I can even send my landlord a check sent directly from my bank, so that's awesome.
But I still get behind little old ladies in the express lane (ALWAYS in the express lane), writing a check for a small carton of creamer and the latest TV Guide.

[canadianorbrit]It's CHEQUE!!![/canadianorbrit]

Don't let your brain write a check your body can't cash. That's all I know. I think I learned that from Top Gun.
-
I always write checks for small businesses when making large purchases from them and they are OK with it. Merchant fees on credit cards can get big and every dollar counts when you're a small business owner.
-
Ah, now a business owner, that's different. I understand the use of checks in that respect.
-
For rent. Hell i'd do debit/credit card for rent if they didnt tack on 25 goddamned dollars. I hate checks.
-
For rent only, everything else I do online or use debit/credit card.

Go to Citibank, they'll cut anyone a check. Plus they have ATMs in every 7-11 and they've just really been the best bank I've ever dealt with.

FUCK CHECKS
I actually had to dig out my checkbook so I could send GameStop a voided one for my direct deposit
-
I have checks, the apartment complex charges the fee. I just hate writing them.
-
I use checks to pay for:
Rent
Bills
Credit Card payments
that's it
-
Only when paying for things that the university won't let me pay for online, or for paying other people for stuff that requires more than about $20 in cash. I don't like withdrawing more than $40 at a time in my neighborhood.
-
If a place won't take my check card, its a place not worth going to!
-
Bills I got to mail off I use checks. About half of them I've converted to autopay over time. Eventually I'll do them all that way probably.
-
No, but at the grocery store I'm pretty much guaranteed to get stuck behind some stupid bitch writing a check for $7.
-
i hate checks and i especially hate places that don't cash them for like 3 weeks.

um...why would you send them a voided copy of your personal checks? It's suppose to be a voided payroll check - well I'm thinking the other way around, maybe GameStop has a different method *shrugs*
Why bother to write a check? I have a crown account, and they sent me a whole box of checks and I never touched one - if I need to do something that can't be done online I'd just get a Offical Bank Check/Money Order as it's :
A.) Secure by the bank
B.) Regardless of "Check 21" when paying something such as a bill or payment to something, it doesn't mean that they will infact take it out that day leaving those who don't have proper money management skills with overdrats.
Although I still think the check won't be phased out as their are far greater traditionalist, and those who don't prefer putting secure information on the computer.

Um... not to knock you off your soapbox, but I've never worked for a place that had direct deposit that DIDN'T ask you for a voided check. And no, I don't work for the local Gas N' Sip (anymore)
The rest of your post seemed rather Prost-ish so I ignored it. Sorry.
-
:lol I don't give a fuck if you read my post, "sorry".
Oh well I don't know how direct deposit works outside the bank - frankly I don't care.
-
I only write checks for monthly bills.

Yep. I think checks should be banned from grocery stores, or at least banned from the express lanes. :D
