This may or may not be the best realization of a comic book icon's outfit in film form.

Favreau's work is mixed at best and he has never tried to do anything similar to Iron Man. Children of Men wasn't a very good adaptation of its source material (although it was entertaining). It's a solid team, but by no means a slam dunk.

To his credit, I've only seen Made out of all the films he's directed, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's no Swingers, but - hey - what is?Made is good. And the direction in Elf was pretty stellar for the genre.

Jon Favreau is unproven, but he is saying all the right things. He seems pretty determined to make this a collaborative project and has gone farther than any other director, save for Robert Rodriguez, in terms of reaching out to the comic book industry for help and input in regards to the source material.

I remember him making people read issues upon issues of Iron Man comics. I also remember hearing that he called various writers at Marvel for input, and talked to Joe Quesada (Editor-in-Chief) as well. He also hired a few artists to come up with conceptual sketches that remained faithful to the source material.
What I admire about this is that it's opposite of how these projects are usually handled. Even Sam Raimi and Bryan Singer are guilty of this, but filmmakers often times might have fond memories of a comic book and then when it comes time to make an adaptation - they stay true to their vision and block out everything else. It's rare for comic industry professionals to talk to a filmmaker and the crew, and not feel like they're being blown off.

Is this maybe because Iron Man is being produced by Marvel Pictures instead of a major studio?

Arad has nothing to do with Iron Man, though Marvel Studios does. Paramount is still involved though. Is this maybe because Iron Man is being produced by Marvel Pictures instead of a major studio?Paramount is producing Iron Man I believe
I thought they were just releasing it and all the money was coming from the newly established Marvel studio which is being run by Avi Arad. I might be wrong, though.
On May 31 2006, Arad resigned his many Marvel positions including his leadership of Marvel Studios to form his own production company, Avi Arad Productions
No. Only those characters left AFTER they sold rights off before marvel studios began can be used cross over wise. Which does not allow for any fantastic four, x-men, spider-man, daredevil, hulk...etc characters.
I love the idea of Marvel Studios. Now there can finally be crossovers

The only problem I have is that from the sewer of Internet rumors, this movie apes too much from Batman Begins.
Of course it's sexy - Stan Winston made it. Everything Stan Winston makes is awesome.
Yeah, it's obviously Iron Monger, as imdb credits Jeff Bridges as Stane.Ah cool. I guess it will revolve around Stanes passing on the plans to the Mandarin or something.
It's rare to see a director catering so much to the fans. The costume, the casting, everything seems geared towards making this palatable do the diehard Iron Man fans. I just hope this translates into a great movie and boffo box office. Filmmakers should be rewarded for trying to remain faithful to what makes the characters great.
