Title: external hard drives
Post by: Mupepe on May 11, 2007, 10:49:54 PM
i'm looking for maybe like a 250 gb external hdd.  where are the best prices usually found?  online?  B&M stores?  what brands are reliable?  i've never owned one, so is there anything i should know regarding them?

Well i'd look at the My Books by Western Digital. They seem to be popular and you can get a 250gb for $105

or spend another 30 bucks and double the space
with this seagate hdd

If you have Circuit Cities around you, they were selling the 500 giggers in store for like 160 bucks, at least as of a few weeks ago.

Good drives. Too bad the ones I have are Maxtor and WD but through a enclosure. Pirating stuff takes up shit tons of space.

The Mybook is a WD on the inside.  It's very cool for an external drive.  It hhas better ventilation than most I have ever seen.  And it still looks pretty nice.

Havent seen them on the net. But that'd be what I'd get for an external personally.

Hm.  I'm just going to use this as a preliminary one.  I just want something reliable.  I'm going to be putting quite a bit of stuff on there including ripping all of my cd's, so I'll probably fill it up quite easily.

Yeah they are pretty reliable and like TVC said they run cooler than most drives cause of the matterials the enclosure is made of.

I was going to suggest newegg.com but everyone else beat me to it.

Why not just use DVD-R's though? They hold like 4+ gigs or something don't they?

oh, because i'm downloading a bunch of stuff like games and music and I want it easily accessible and archived.  I don't want to have to pull it off of a disk.
