Due to finally realizing that it gets a ton of praise here and at GAF, I figured I might as well get it. My Border's hasn't had Batman Year One or Watchmen for the longest time, but for some reason they had BOTH today. Bought both and am incredibly excited.
Alan Moore=omg

The Watchmen is God's gift to graphic novels.
-
:-*
Watchmen :heartbeat :heartbeat
-
The first page of The Watchmen is sex. Rorschach's monologue, the smile face pin on the ground with a blood stain on it, and the pan up to the buildings to where he fell is omg. Brilliant work.
When I first read that page, I knew I was in for a treat.
-
I dont know what happened to my copy of Watchmen. I need to reread it. I had a bunch of graphic novels at my old house. My mom must of got rid of them. :-\ One of the best freaking pieces of work ever.
-
Brand, have you read Batman: Dark Knight Returns?

TDK returns > Year One

Yep

Mm-hmm. Really good stuff, it's my favorite Batman graphic novel I've read so far, and I REALLY loved Long Halloween. I just really like the art in DKR moreso than Sale's art...even though Sale drew one of the best Batman's I've ever encountered.
That said, I only just cracked open Year One. Should be good, I'm hoping it's as good as everyone makes it out to be.
Is it just me, or are DC graphics novels, like, sooooo much more awesome than Marvel stuff? Granted I just basically started getting into comics, but everything I've bought from DC is fantastic. Death of Superman, DKR, Long Halloween, Doomsday, and now Year One and Watchmen. What graphics novels from Marvel are worth reading...the Civil War ones? What about things that are Spiderman specific?

TDK returns > Year One
I hate Frank Miller's character defamation of Superman. Miller's a one trick pony. Even fans of TDK Returns have gotten bored of his Superman hating in All Star Batman.

It's kinda interesting. I don't like Superman for the same reasons Miller doesn't, and it's interesting to see a different view of him. The Invincible Boy Scout has been portrayed as such for more than half a century, so a couple decades of blasphemy is ok by me ;)
-
Despite Miller's "defamation" as you say it, he's still responsible for arguabley the two most important stories in Batman history.
EDIT: Superman was fucking great in TDOS and its sequel Doomsday.

I was okay with TDKReturns but Miller portrays Superman the same way in all his stories that have Superman. It's a major reason why even Batman fans didn't think much of TDK Strikes again or All Star Batman. His portrayal of Superman is not only unfair but also predictable and stale.
Read this and you will like Superman a little more

It's good to see people with different takes on Superman. Miller's superman is just another version of the boy scout embittered by time.
Kingdom Come is :heartbeat , too. DC graphic novels kick the crap out of Marvel, but. . I tend to like Marvel characters more. There aren't enough badass females in DC.

Did Kingdom Come make you cry when Captain Marvel made the sacrifice? There are grown men that got emotional during that moment. I agree with you on the females. There need to be more interesting females in DC. Even DC's female icon, Wonder Woman, hasn't had many interesting stories in many years.

Alan Moore=omg
Read The Killing Joke? Short but sweet, and Brian Bolland's art is jizzmatic.
I fondly remember getting that book in '89, I think. Bought it at Fred's Comics. Ahh, good ol' Fred. None of the other comic stores would let me buy the "Suggested For Mature Readers" titles, but Fred would. Sadly, his shop was annihilated by the industry crash in '93.
-
. . . The Killing Joke is the best Batman comic ever, omgosh.
-
Believe me, the Killing Joke would be a first on my list to buy, but it's not in print at the moment. They need to do a reprint dammit.

That might just be my favorite piece of comic bookdom ever. It was the pinnacle of an already ass-kickingly awesome high point for DC, from like somewhere in '87 through mayyyybe '92. Comics were never the same after that period, for me anyway :( After Batman and Detective Comics went to shit, I had some hopes that the Legends Of The Dark Knight series could somehow survive unscathed, but they managed to ruin that too.

Wait, did you not like the Loeb-Sale work on Batman?
-
HAVE YOU STARTED READING WATCHMEN YET
-
Wait, did you not like the Loeb-Sale work on Batman?
I've got The Long Halloween and Dark Victory sitting on my shelf right now. *shrugs* Never really touched 'em. Thanks for reminding me though, I guess I can start reading them sometime soon, lol.

What a crime. They ran off so many printings of it back in the day. I can't imagine it's not available somewhere.
-
Long Halloween is really good, you SHOULD read it. I really love the art in it, too. It's all 40's comics and lots of shadows.
-
Yeah, the art did look really nice, from what I saw. Okay, I'll give it a go.

Cyanista you went from moderatly hot to OMG will you marry me. Why cant more girls be like you?

I'm not entirely sure she's real. Too fucking awesome.
Hey G, maybe all the lies you've told on the internet have woven a Matrix-like construct.
-
Why cant more girls be like you?
They are all too busy taking pics of themselves vaccuming pantsless in high heels to cultivate hobbies. LOL reading.
-
She's real :maf but yeah sometimes I wonder, my matrix world haha.
Graphic novels rock hard though. I might have to go buy some.
Haha Cyanista i know your not one of those horrible attention whores. Reading is good, Roxy likes to read books. I personally like reading books about utopia's
-
I need me a couple new ones.
-
I don't like the DC universe, at all - at least when compared to Marvel. I grew up a Marvel fanboy though, so I'm biased. As a kid Wolverine was my favoooorite superhero, and even today I still love him
Batman is easily my favorite DC character
