Title: evilbore ladies: explain the 'celtic' thing
Post by: Van Cruncheon on May 15, 2007, 04:56:05 PM
normally, i try to keep observations of gender and the stereotypes thereof to only those directly solicited from me. however, i gotts ask: why do chicks seem to universally love celtic music/art/imagery? (and if you are one of the chicks who don't, why do you always have a thing for southwestern native american knick knacks instead?)

i mean, jesus: i can't piss standing up without hitting one of those stupid interlocked curlicue designs or celtic cross necklaces or a stack of enya albums. i know half of you keep a long, flowy print silk dress -- probably green with a floral pattern -- you periodically wear while gazing at the moon. why is celtic shiz so appealing?

EXPLAIN PAPANGETTES.

Yeah I've noticed your trend in women. Its one or the other never both.

And fuck you I used to wear a kilt a lot as a kid. I'm scottish damnit. And when I get married, you better know I'm walking down the isle in a victorian scottish royal getup. Wonder if they make kilts in my size though.

I wasnt born in scottland, but its just a dream to have a traditional scottish wedding. I went to one many many years ago and it rocked. And its part of my background so why the hell not. Its that or a Irish wedding.

I can explain this one.

Women are more apt to be fruitbrains and like shit like new age music.  Then they'll hear that new age music is based off of celtic music or it sounds similar or some shit.  Then when they find out that the celts were all pagans, they think "oh that's so cool."

Basically, you can pretty much guarantee that if a woman likes celtic music/"culture" she likes crap like new age music/"beliefs" and paganism, and that she has brains the consistency of a fruit cup.  My mother is a perfect example of this, although our family IS heavily Irish on her side and she's been a couple times, so I guess there's SOME connection.  I want to go to Ireland to show them that Americans can drink.

Yeah I've met a lot of girls when I was in college into tarot and new-agey type stuff. And a few into Enya, didn't realize that they crossed over THAT much. I guess its just another trend girls jump on to try and look "deep".

At first I thought this was gonna be about Celtic names, and how PP was changing his daughter's name to something cooler, like "Ripley Dana Barret McGuirk Erickson" or something.

Sounds like a left coast thing to me, though.  Haven't noticed that around here, and I hang out in places that gave Nader more votes than Bush.

There are no cool guys in an operating systems class. Not even the dudes from the swimming team who set swimming records for their foreign countries.

I think it has to be a Washington thing. I noticed it a lot more back home than I have down here in Los Angeles.

My wife loves the Celtic stuff too, from the jewelry to the music (but not the clothing/appearance thing), and she's one of the smartest and down to earth people I know. It sorta stinks because while I don't mind the music, and do like some of it (The Pouges, Afro Celt Sound System, Dagda), the minute any of my favorite stuff (90s shoegazer and punk) comes on the volume gets turned down or the remote goes to the next playlist button. :(

We need a support group where we sit around and drink Fat Tire, listen to butt rock and unreasonable volume, and make drunken mockery impersonations of NPR's Fiona Ritchie.

Naw, drink Sierra Nevada, listen to 80's metal (but not hair metal), though my friend would say you should only listen to Zakk Wylde/Ozzy when drinking Sierra Nevada, and then drunkenly slamdance instead.  MEN, FUCK YEAH.

Why is that?

I don't know.

Maybe it's just being in the Southeast, where none of the breweries have any kind of history to them and binge drinking of heavy liquor is the only way to make the still lingering pain of the war of northern aggression go away for a good chunk of the populace.

I really need to move, wish the jobs here weren't so good for my wife and I. :(

It's not.  My ex used to pee herself at the sight of celtic crosses.

My best friend is straight off the boat Irish too, I know she wanted him.

Our house was covered in celtic art and Georgia O'Keefe "flowers."

TVC would have offed himself.

edit:  My ex was pretty damn smart too, intelligence isn't related to the love of celtic crosses I'd have to say.

If my wife covered the house with Georgia O'Keefe flowers I'd have to hang up some H.R. Geiger art to balance things out.
