Well, it's not "better" than Shaun of the Dead but I have far more nostalgia for this classic 80's comedy horror/sci-fi. I just recently watched it and forgot how much I enjoyed it.
It has a pretty basic plot. A comet goes by earth that wipes out every single living being for the most part turning the few survivors into zombie's. However our two leads just happened to be in a steal incased location thus do not get wiped out or become zombies.
Leaving two 18 year old preppy valley girls alone(for the most part) in a empty L.A. to take on some zombie action and crazy govt. agents.
It is cheesey, silly, and total 80's awesomeness with valley girls with guns acting girly. I hate zombie movies but this is an exception. One of my all time guilty pleasures that everyone should see.
What is not to love about this?:

Awesome movie (and of course it's not better than SotD). It just recently came out on DVD, right? Gotta get that.
Sole Survivor was pretty good too, but that's still VHS only.

Not really a zombie movie, but "Night of..." got me going. Anyone see Night of the Creeps? OMG sobad it is good x10.

Haha, yes, I remember Night of the Creeps. It's been awhile, but that movie was good times. Sadly, another VHS only :-\
Hmm, maybe I'll watch Return of the Living Dead later.
