God damn being stuck in the minors suck. Its bad enough when I suck enough to be sent to the minors, but its fuckin bad news bears over here. I wish they would try harder, im tired 5 innings in :(

wow, graphics are pretty shitty. but we all knew that. i think the batting and pitching is ace. gameplay definitely makes up for the graphical shortcomings. you guys need to teach me how the "predict" mechanic works. okay, so i choose what pitch i *think* will be thrown at me, then i choose the direction in the batter's box? how do i know my choices are activated? there's really no visual cue. oh, i also hate that if you hit a homeruns, sometimes the camera is focused on the batter and not the ball flying into the air. wtf sony?!
hey mafstation, you fancy a match this weekend? i fuckin' suck, but i'm down to play for fun.

I have pitching mostly figured out, batting however is a bit trickier. iirc you hold R2 I believe and a list pops up on the right hand side of the screen. You GUESS which pitch is coming to you, if you guess right it will show you where the pitch will land and then you use the right/left stick I dunno to aim your hit. Its kinda wierd.
Thats how it works against AI anyway. I will be up for a match this weekend for sure, hopefully the gods of psn make latency favorable.
-
that's pretty much the same conclusion i made in regards to pitching. i'm wondering if you guess 1/2 correct if it still shows you where the pitch is gonna land. weird. as far as latency is concerned, it may help that we're both on the west coast -- cross your fingers!

Well pitching seems to have a lot more control.
Basically the catcher suggests a pitch and a location. You can either agree to it by selecting the suggested pitch and aiming the ball cursor over the yellow target, or you can select the pitch you want and use the suggested location or a different location.
From that point your ability to hit where you targeted with the cursor depends on the pitch gauge. When youre rested you get a bar at the low range automatically, and when you hit the high range of the meter you set the top bar (dictating power) and on the way back you want to generally hit the point in between those two bars.
However, you can trick batters on the fly, especially in vs mode by deliberately not hitting the center of that range. That last bar afaik represents when in your pitch arc the ball is released. The higher you pop the third bar the earlier the release the higher the pitch. The lower the third bar hits on the gauge the later the release the lower the pitch. In general its a bad idea to try early releases unless youre certain youre pitching at an initially low designated target or you will almost always overshoot the pitcher and I have yet to see a pitcher in the game compensate well for an overthrow. Its easier to take a chance throwing really low since most catchers stop balls in the dirt preventing extra bases.
Now, as your pitcher gets tired he loses the ability to throw really powerful pitches, but accuracy remains relatively on. However, if you start losing the game badly you retain most of your power but lose a lot of control, which is represented by the lack of the initial first bar in the pitching gauge. At this point you still set the second and third bars, but you kinda have to GUESS where that first bar WOULD have been, and therein lies the challenge.
Also its good to mix up your pitches to ensure when you need to throw a certain pitch its bar shows enough charge or whatever it is to = a great pitch.
Thats all ive got from the game so far, im doing a Road to the Show as a pitcher in the shitty minors so ive had to learn as I go.

ah that makes sense. i was wondering why my pitch meter was getting fuxored late in the game. i also noticed that it adjusts according to the pitcher's stance, which is a nice feature. i've only played a couple of hours, so i'll try to get in some more tonight. hopefully by this sunday it won't be a total blowout. thanks for the explaining the mechanics, i think i'll try out the other game modes tonight.
-
Yeah it adjusts to stance because its basic form represents the arc of his throw.
Road to the Show mode is A LOT of fun :)

Me neither, MAFSTATION has been an unhappy gray color on my friend list for quite some time now.

My internet is toast right now. Verizon wants to charge me 75 dollars to fix it, so I am switching providers :(
