As we all know, last month ps3 sold 82k in NA. This came up on a Newsweek blog.
And we both know the sales need to pick up, pronto--especially if Sony wants to keep third party interest. Already third party executives are telling me that if PS3 sales stay below 100k for 3 consecutive months, PS3 SKUs may start disappearing from release lists and in turn create a wealth of de-facto exclusives for the Xbox 360.

good. if sony doesn't drop the price it won't sell either way, might as well as force them to do so

I can't believe people actually believe sony is going to drop the price.
Do you realize how much money they will be losing if they do that?

Well considering the actual QUALITY of the BluRay player in the PS3, I cant imagine its costing a lot to make.

It was just too damn soon to put it in a video game system. DVD players were out only like a year after PSX/N64 and by the time PS2 was ready they were JUST cheap enough in time to throw in, horrible timing this time around.

Not only that but the technology was perfected by the time it was slapped in consoles. The ps3 bluray wont even scale down to 720p. BluRay is native 1080p, so even a 1080i doesnt look quite right imo

i read that entire article. i definitely think the scenario would be a lot different if the 360 was in the wii's $249 territory and the PS3 was priced more near the 360's premium. i don't think nintendo would be dominating so hard.
sad about third parties though, seems like they're taking it from all directions.

and what do you think they're going to do? let it keep sinking and do nothing? by dropping they price they might at least make back money later, having a bigger userbase and more games.
besides, sony already removed one of the bc chips, switched to 65 nm (i think, if they haven't they will soon) and is probably doing whatever it takes to reduce costs. they could use that to just keep the losses to a minimum, but i think they'd rather drop the price than lose all the games and have the thing fail even harder
