He will not have a drinking problem in the movie. Jon Faverau said they will introduce that in the sequel (assuming the first makes enough for a part 2).

I've never read the Iron Man stuff before, but why does he look like a white trash NASCAR fan

Well the movie will probably make $100 million and disappear, but there will be a sequel no matter what.

This is a big budget summer release. GHOST RIDER made over 100 million in feb. And this movie has a big big big deal of fan hype so far.

He's more in the line of a 80's entrepreneur/playboy, which explains the long hair and alcohol abuse.
