There's a foreign Cyanista on some word reference forum talking about russian authors.  :-\

My old handle was hellfrog, that got stolen tons.  Googling that one reminded me of my old Sims 2 community and all the lame comic/game skins I made. :heartbeat

Surprisingly, no one has ever really taken mine from what I've seen.

I've never seen Distantmantra anywhere. But then again, it finds it's origin from combining misinterpreted distorted, muffled lyrics of To Sheila from a bootleg Pumpkns concert recording prior to Adore's release (Blistered Avalon sound like Distant Avalon) + the name of a song (Tree Mantra) from the band Lowcraft.

:lol  My real name googles up pages and pages worth of crap.  My two favorites are Ashley Soandso's pottery page.  "The best part of Ashley's pots is their fluid sensuality"

Trust me, these look like shit the kiln threw up in seventh grade art class.

ALSO There's a jolly fat old farming man with no hair atop his head that shares my name.  Down to the middle initial.  :lol :lol

Depends upon what kind of ska you're into. Shitty ska punk is still popular in Orange County and New Jersey as well as Europe and Japan.

Real ska is popular in Los Angeles and the Bay Area as well as Chicago, New York and some parts of Eastern Canuckistan.

Also Reel Big Fish has a new CD coming out, they're promising that this one will have no songs about how much the music industry sucks because they're finally off a major label.

Oh and I played trumpet in marching/symphonic/jazz bands as well as trying to play in ska groups. I also have some bass playing skill and can play barre chords on the guitar poorly.

Dang, I didn't know RBF had a new album coming out.  Yaaayyy.

I like mostly the skacore sound, I guess you would call it.  Reel Big Fish and all that.  What would you classify a band like The Planet Smashers?

And I can play upstroke triads on the guitar all day long.  :D

Ska-core to me is usually more like The Bosstones. RBF is like Pop punk mixed with ska. If you go their myspace it has a sampler of the new album. Its some rerecords of songs from their debut and some B-Sides from WDTRSH and Cheer Up, so it sounds like it would fit between those two almost.

Planet Smashers I guess fall into that ambiguous "third wave" category where they don't lean too hard on punk/hardcore crutches but they still wouldn't sound right in a 1960s Jamaican dance hall. That and they use the same song structure/chord progression on almost every song. Maybe they're more towards ska pop?

I ditched my first online handle, and went to morose.  I figured it was uncommon enough at the time that I wouldn't feel the need to fight for it.  Then AOL boom and goth kiddy boom and it became a problem.  So I found a more fitting word, etiolate and went with that.  I figured noone would use it, and for the most part that is right, but once in awhile there won't be an 'etiolate' available and I have to use etoilet.

Iron Chef was my online gaming handle, especially Iron Chef Ascalon in Guild Wars.  I used the handle for pvp only, so it wasn't always reserved.  At some point someone else started using it and even using the Ascalon part.  Not sure if they were posing on me for reputation or what, but I still get asked if I'm some dude who is not me, which is lame.  Especially since I put the name on the map, made the name have reputation in the game and then someone takes a slab of it.
Title: Re: People who steal your online handle

For the longest time, I used to read your name as etoilet (and may have treated you like one). For what it's worth, sorry.

Yeah, that makes sense.  Now that you mention it, the whole "ska-core" thing originated with the Bosstones.  I guess I just like the poppier stuff.  And the new/re-recorded stuff on RBF's Myspace page sounds pretty great.

No one's ever stolen mine, but then again, who would?

I'm not creative enough to think up something good. :( I talked to a girl named Alicia all the time ages ago, and her handle on everything was blue oreo.

I tried to register as "schatzie" on AIM but someone already has it. I added them to my buddylist and they never came online, not for years and years and years. I finally just took them off.

EDIT: I just saw the Bosstones/RBF talk. YAY! "Let's Face It" by Mighty Mighty Bosstones was one of the first CDs I ever purchased. I'm going to see Reel Big Fish in July, playing with Streetlight Manifesto and LESS THAN JAKE!!!!

I Just got into RBF like a year ago, but I've loved Less Than Jake since I was like 13. I had a chance to go see them at 14, when they were opening for Bon FUCKING Jovi (!!!) and my dad wouldn't let me go because I'd miss swim practice. They were playing in my hometown and everything. GAH! :lol
