Title: DiRT Demo: WOW!!!!
Post by: demi on May 24, 2007, 03:43:33 PM
Forza 2 and Che found huddling in the corner. This game is a visual SEXPIECE. From the menus to the actual racing. I suppose the only mark would be that it's 30 compared to Forza's 60 but that doesn't bother me. Game looks AMAZING.

Why would che and forza 2 be huddling the corner? Forza's gameplay is admired just as much as its graphics.

how's this compared to motorstorm?  i bought motorstorm, haven't played it enough though...  i've always liked the CM series of racing games though.

okay brief comparison... motorstorm definitely wins on terrain deformation.  i think the lighting and overall look is much better on DIRT.  interface and presentation is fucking ace, best of this generation.  graphically, they're actually pretty close.  the amount of polygons DIRT is pushing is amazing, and wow @ the trees.  the environments are fantastic, but the texture quality is a little lower than MS.  gameplay wise, plays nothing like motorstorm, i like DIRT's gameplay better, definitely feels like a colin mcrae game and not nearly as floaty as MS.  i think DIRT could be the best looking racer out right now for the 360, even visually better than PGR3 and Forza 2.  there's still some slight screen tearing, almost zero in the first-person view --- but hopefully those kinks get worked out in the final game.  overall, very impressed with the game both visually and gameplay wise, it holds its own against motorstorm and in some instances looks even better.  but that's just my opinion.

It is supposed to release next month, so I guess you had better hope it's an old build.

Motorstorm feels a lot more arcadey in comparison.  The game also may be called "Dirt," yet unlike in Motorstorm, you can't veer off the main road and go wherever you want.  Love the damage model though.

yeah, they have the hood and bumpers fall off and if you hit a corner hard enough the wheels will fall off.  The physics, especially the braking, aren't very good because when you brake it feels like you dropped a 3 ton anchor.  The damage is split into bodywork (body panel dents), gearbox, suspension, wheels, engine, drivetrain, transmission, and cooling.
